Well, ‘maybe’ images OF my ass…
And has anyone else noted there are NO test pictures of anything but a gun or a knife on the model??? What about those ‘explosives’ they are supposed to be catching???

The TSA RFP (the one EPIC posted before) requires the ability to store images (yes, it did say training mode) and required specific levels of personnel have the capability to enable that mode and permit captures. People at those specific levels are assigned at the airport level from what other sources have stated. Also those machines apparently have both Ethernet and USB slots…
AND they run on Windoze, so two keystrokes allow a screen capture of anything on the screen at the time. And anyone want to bet there are NO camera phones in those ‘secure’ rooms???
Also, if vendors have installed machines at the airport checkpoints without that capability (the ability to go into training mode and capture/store images), then they are in violation of the Federal Acquisition Regulations for failure to comply with deliverable specifications and should be reported to the GAO for investigation.

The ones I really feel for are the TSAers that have to work there everyday and are getting MAJOR levels of X-ray/MM wave… As I said, I asked for the MSDS and was told I didn’t need to see it…
Vote with your feet and pocketbooks… Opt Out and don’t fly unless it’s an emergency… And if you REALLY want to piss em off, ask the TSAers why they can’t just profile the bad guys…

A boycott is in order
My job requires I fly. I do so 2-3 times a month. There must be a way to pressure the airlines. Say an email. “I was on your flight _____ today. My employment requires it. I do not like the screening process. Be assured, unless employment related, I will find other means for my personal travel. Sincerely, etc. Think it would have an impact? I mean sending it every time I fly, not once in awhile.
I all for safety but this new TSA just bites! I’ll drive to where I need to go and only fly when absolutely necessary. I didn’t know the airlines were on such sound financial ground that they could afford to chase away, yet again, travelers!
Gizmodo I believe has the one’s from the US Marshells Office up. WHich shows these machines can, and do store images.
It will not belong before some from the TSA make their way to the internet.
Think about it this way. Why would they make those machines with no possibility of preserving the evidence in case some idiot is stupid enough to walk into one of those things with bad things stuffed in his pants.
I read the RFP and the AITs are capable of image capture, but the images are saved to a central server, so technically they can say that the machines can’t save images.
TSA spokesmonkees obfuscate with semantics, I suspect.
I would bet a paycheck the machines record and save every image, even if only for a few days on looped memory. It’s how *I* would build one.
All this.. the machines, the gropedowns, the evil small minded kabuki security…. it’s all symptomatic of what passes for Federal Government today.
In the pantheon of things to react to and flee before, while grabbing all the money and power they can, citizen disgust and anger were always considered the least of the TSA’s institutional worries. We were supposed to just shut up and take it.
I’d like to see real numbers on airline and airport P+L over the last few years. I suspect the trend line will be…. clear.
Oh….. I drive where I wish to go. If flying commercial is required to get there, then I don’t need to go.
Taking the 1600 mile round trip back to PA by car. The airport was plenty of hassle before with my wife’s MS. Way too much now.
