Check out this video on the new and improved “Pig”…

New M60-43 Machine gun (.30 Cal). Truly puts the word “machine” in Machine Gun.

Very impressive and this sustained fire only represents half of the advertized capacity of sustained by the manufacturer !!

This is a vast improvement over the one used in Vietnam! I recall a couple of flights as a Helo door gunner and having a box of barrels for each gun and would pull a barrel when it got “lose or wobbly: under just a short duration of sustained fire, chuck it out the door and then quickly insert another barrel to resume action.

Almost 2 minutes of sustained fire, one continuous pull of the trigger… Gotta pity the ammo bearer, now they’ll have to carry even MORE ammo 🙂

THIS WILL KEEP OUR FOLKS ALIVE!!!

In other news, CAPT Owen Honors has been fired as the CO of the USS Enterprise just prior to cruise for ‘conduct unbecoming’… Link HERE

We were discussing this at dinner last night, and there are LOT of questions…

Why now? This video sequence was FOUR years old…

Who did he piss off? Or is this a left handed slap by the DADT advocates?

Who ‘released’ this, and when? Or was this a setup by somebody with a grudge?

I’ve viewed them and I’ve seen worse on TV, but “THAT” is okay because that’s entertainment???

Because of the media circus, this officer has lost his career, and a ship is going in harm’s way with a new CO…

In the military, you look for strong leaders that the troops will rally around, and it appears CAPT Honors was such… The Facebook page (HERE) has been up 2 days and has over 17,000 likes and comments… Including many who had served under CAPT Honors when he was XO of the Enterprise.

Sadly, none of that will do one bit of good… What is our military coming to when they are bowing to civilian ‘complaints’, 4 years later?

It’s not MY Navy anymore… Sometimes I think John Q. Public deserves what they are about to get…

Sigh…

  1. My M-60 is going out to US Ordnance to become one of those–it’s all arranged. Then I will be King of the World.

And yeah, I think that Captain Honor is being sacrificed as part of the continuing effort to remove the warrior spirit from the military so that perpetually angry feminists and poofy girly-men can join without feeling inferior.

  2. Captain Honor is being fired because Pentagon and Washington leadership don’t want to admit that true warfighters are rarely politically correct. I challenge anyone to go through an Infantry or Armor barracks and not find something that would make a sailor blush.

Captain Honor’s one mistake was in acting this way in a medium that could be seen outside the small circle of people who get the joke. And if some on his ship complained about it, he should have toned it down a bit instead of poking fun at them. Other than that, all he was trying to do was bring a bit of levity to Groundhog Day.

  3. Julie- We think so too..

Me- Looking forward to seeing that 🙂

DB- You are correct… suffice to say it is a GOOD thing there weren’t any cameras around for Forc’sle Follies or a BUNCH of senior leadership would be going out the door with Honors…

It’s the old keep behind glass and break in case of war mentality, they don’t want those politically incorrect (but morale raising) things to be done, seen, heard…

  4. The danger to officers in command of everything except the media has been around since Patton slapping a soldier in Sicily (I believe), but there was a war on so they put him in charge of a phony army until they needed him to beat the Soviets to Berlin… okay, they didn’t allow him that either, but they knew he was important enough for fighting that his media role wasn’t critical. MacArthur was much better at media, and not as good at war, although he had a bunch.

Something about the current American Media Culture, people are really starting to fear it, and exposure. Wasn’t there a groups of Tailhook folks?

wv — impin (your imagine and honor)

  5. Commanding a carrier is the epitome of a navel career, after that, you basically fly or drive a desk at some HQ somewhere. For this stuff to appear 4 years after the cruise smells like a lot of the anointed ones political appointees. Somebody has an axe to grind and with it coming out around the time of the repeal of DADT smells like political opportunism.

  6. Earl- Excellent points! And yes Tailhook in 91 took a bunch of folks down too…

    Fuzzy- yes and yes… dammit…

    MrG- I agree 100%

Why Our Best Officers are Leaving

    http://tinyurl.com/2dkxuff

To ruin an officer’s career over something to trivial is a crime, but typical of what we have come to expect from the PC liberal leftists that run so much of the government, including the military.

I’m sure the ripples from this will spread throughout the Navy and the rest of the military. More bright young men and women will decide that their talents can be better utilized in the private sector.

Somewhere, years from now in a place I probably can’t imagine, soldiers or sailors will die because in 2011 a promising young officer hung it up and went off to be a civilian.

Another thing for which to hate Obama and his PC administration.

  8. Talk about putting lead on target!!

It is sad what is going on today. It does not seem like the same Military I remember serving in either, at least at the upper echelon.

  9. A victory for those who Col David Hackworth labeled “Perfumed Princes”. Today he would probably add “and Princesses”.

Just once I would like to see our national civilian leadership show a fraction of the guts our troops at the tip of the spear show everyday.

  10. “It’s not MY Navy anymore… Sometimes I think John Q. Public deserves what they are about to get…”

I was thinking the same exact thing about this incident, especially the last sentence. I haven’t been this ticked off at our “leadership” since 1992 when my promotion to LT was held up a month or two while the Navy held their little witch hunt and stand-down political indoctrination sessions into Tailhook (Me being a bubblehead who was out on patrol at the time, in my case a little something I call research could have saved them the trouble of harassing me.) I can only image how much this must incense John Paul Jones, David Farragut, and Bull Halsey looking down on us from the hereafter…
    facepalm city.
