Prostate Cancer…

It’s real, and it can and does hit close to home…

My ex-FIL has been diagnosed with Prostate cancer, and it is advanced…  ‘Bob’ had been taking care of his wife (who died of Leukemia earlier this year), so hadn’t had a real physical or even been to a doctor in at least two years…

My youngest, as some of you know, is a Paramedic; she had been ‘supporting’ her Grandpa with his wife, and she finally got him to go to the Doctor.  Needless to say, the diagnosis was NOT good.  He’s going through Chemo now, but the last check-up they found a lump on his spine, so they think it’s metastasized and he’s terminal…

Folks, we need to step up on this one…  And no you’re not getting a pic of me in a kilt, since I don’t own one…

But go support your favorite gun blogger, or get in on the prizes yourself by putting up links, or feel free to pick one of the links below and donate from here…

Prostate Cancer Foundation   OR   LiveStrong

This is truly a good cause (for us guys), and not one that gets a lot of publicity, nor has a huge organization behind it…

Thanks for your time, and go get checked!  It only hurts for a little while, as long as you make em take the BIG class ring off 🙂

  1. Yep, you HAVE to get checked yearly! being ‘well over’ 50, I get checked every six months by my Doctor, both the PSA blood test, and the (UGH!) ‘regular’ exam. No history of any kind of cancer on my Mother’s or Father’s side, but the discomfort of the exam is a small price to pay for catching it early.
And I won’t even go into the colonoscopy exam…..

  2. Maybe if they take me to dinner and a movie???

I have been remiss in getting checked! It is now on my to do list! Or the to be done list, or the bend over and grimace list!
    Thanks for caring!!

  3. CANCER I HATE IT!
    I DO support your cause.

I just found out today that Little Jax (18 mts old)has to have a bone marrow transplant. In his short life he has already beat cancer 1 time and NOW here he goes again. I just don’t understand it.

Prayers going up for your loved ones and for the cure for all cancers.

@drjim~ I have to get the last one you mentioned in Oct. DREAD IT, but I do know its necessary. My last exam they found pre cancerous cells.

  4. I have not contracted prostate cancer. If it spreads beyond the prostate this suggestion won’t help – but if it’s still localized, you all should look seriously at “proton therapy”. It’s 98.4% successful, it’s non-invasive the way that surgery is and it doesn’t involve putting radioactive pellets into your body. It’s not available everywhere, but it works. I have had two friends have undergone this cure and it doesn’t hurt, doesn’t wipe out your weasel and doesn’t make you glow in the dark.

Your cause is a worthy one.

  5. Uh, oh, yeah. Haven’t had a checkup in awhile myself. Guess I need to do that.

  6. It DOES hit close to home, My Father had it and his prostrate was removed several years ago. Glad he is still here.

Gone to donate! No kilt here, besides we would not want to scare the horses with a picture, right?!?!
