It’s FRIDAY…

Random things…

Daughter is doing well, no apparent bruising, redness, infection at the three incisions for her surgery.  BUT, she’s not even close to mobile, and is NOT having fun getting up and down, much less going to the bathroom…

And no I wasn’t kidding about the stitches looking like tie wraps…

So she’s spending most of the day asleep on the couch or getting fed, or getting her pain and other meds…

And she said to say thank you to all those who texted, emailed, and called, even if she doesn’t know y’all 🙂

And speaking of meds, DO take pain meds as prescribed, to actually mitigate the pain so that healing begins.  Toughing it out does no one any good… And take the anti-nausea pills too, they are prescribed to keep you from throwing up the other meds!

Of note, I didn’t mention it earlier, but one thing you want to make sure is in place is a limited power of attorney for medical when anyone goes in for surgery.  Thankfully, it was not needed; but safe is better than sorry if something had happened.

The deck is ‘almost’ done (thank you RAIN, I got a day off)…

More piers for the ‘step up’

First part of the stepped section finished!

Strong backs knocking down the slope…

Last portion awaiting the decking and wall…

And it’s raining so no work for me 🙂

Back on the airplane and back to the salt mines… sigh…  And I’ll leave you with a movie trivia question.

Who was the original star that was supposed to play Bullitt, and what was the original location supposed to be???

It’s FRIDAY… — 13 Comments

  1. My 57-yr old sister is recovering from hip replacement surgery at my 82/87 yr old parents’… I hope my dad (and mom) survive it!

  2. I exercised Google, and no can findem da answers to your Bullitt trivia questions. Enquiring Shipmates Want To Know…What are the answers, and where did you find that trivia info?

  3. Glad the lady is doing well.

    drjim – –
Half correct, according to Internet Movie Database (imdb.com).
In their Trivia section, they indicate that “Bullitt” was adapted from the Robert L. Pike novel “Mute Witness”, in which Det. Frank Bullitt was a Boston policeman who ate a lot of ice cream and never solved a case.

IMDB says the movie was intended for Spencer Tracy all right, but passed to McQueen after Tracy’s death.

I have no personal knowledge of this topic – – I just looked it up after ONFO posed the question.

  4. This guys Dad worked on the film, hence the knowledge of the location being changed from LA to SF:
A chase was not in the original concept, but added later, and the location changed from Los Angeles to San Francisco at the suggestion of Peter Yates, the film’s director.

  5. drjim- You’re almost right…

    DB- Thanks!

DC- Good luck to all of them! 🙂 Your sister WILL get better!

    Joe- See below

JPG- Thanks, and you are correct!

drjim- Correct, it was originally supposed to be filmed in Boston, then moved to LA, but McQueen and Yates didn’t like the ‘atmosphere’ of LA, and though SFO would be a better match to the script. Also, McQueen pushed Yates for the car chase. I got this from an old guy yesterday on the airplane who was the media coordinator for SFO back in the day. He said that chase scene played hell with the neighborhood and street closures, but everybody ‘finally’ cooperated; and the rest is history!!!

  6. There is one downside to pain medications, and that is they can cause constipation. It may not be an issue depending on the surgery and the patient, but if your being stitched up for a hernia or something with your digestive system, the pain meds can actually delay healing.

But I’m glad your daughter is better.

  7. I remember getting the “If you don’t use your pain meds, you’re delaying the time you get better” lecture when I was in the hospital and would forget to press the button for the morphine. I didn’t want the morphine, and didn’t feel the pain until I moved, or until I pushed the button and the morphine took the pain away.

Of course, I was in the hospital because I fell off a 40 foot cliff and broke my hip, my head, and a rock with my head on the way down. Seeing as I can break rocks with my head, I can understand why they’d think I was a little hard-headed. Funny thing is, I was worried about the possible legal consequences of breaking a national monument rather than the fact that I was banged up. Turns out they give you a pass on that if they have to rappel to find the chip in the rock.

  8. Andy- Yep, she’s finding that out… sigh

    Ed- Thanks!

Phillip- Glad you survived! And she did NOT want any morphine…

    Rev- Thanks!
