Okay Already…

Geez, I put up TWO Air Force videos and I get accused of being a ‘fanboi’…

So in answer here’s something from the Navy side of the aisle! ย And HERE is an excellent post by Peter on some of the machinations that are going into upgrading the systems to the Growler (EA-18G)…

Anyway, some shots of EA-6B Prowlers doing their job and some gratuitous A-6 Intruders thrown in for fill… ย All set to Radar Love ๐Ÿ™‚ ย

Wayne did a good job with this one, and there is at least one ‘real’ shot from Nam in it… The original (done back in the 80s) had LOTS of mission data from Nam included, which is probably NOT politically correct these days…

And the whole PSH over drones and recording stuff over the US? ย That’s been going on since the 50’s… Just sayin…

  1. Intruders and Prowlers, Oh my! That was just cool. And there are still some EA-6B types flying out of Patuxtent River NAS in MD–I’ve seen ’em when I was working down that way.

Next question: Why you up at 0300?

  2. Don’t worry.

Being a fanboi of the Air Force is actually a good thing.

Just look at the aircraft names.

    Air Force: Eagle, Falcon, Raptor
    Navy: Prowler, Intruder, Hornet

    Need I say more?

  3. While I recognize the natural evolution of things, somehow the EA18G will never replace the EA6B for me.

  4. I guess its a good thing we’re still pumping out those Super Hornet airframes, given the shape of the JSF we may need to continue buying 18s.

  5. Broken Andy–Agree.

I was in an argument a year or so ago with some bookworm who’d never flown ANYTHING but who insisted the F-16 was the most useless, inept aircraft the Air Force had ever put in their inventory.

His entire argument was based upon a discussion in some internet forum about military aviation.

I simply asked him, “You’ve never flown one, right?” and he kept insisting that that wasn’t the point. . .

Those Hornets will do the job! My squid pals call them “plastic bugs” but do so with very loving respect.

I tell them (squid friends) that the bugs ARE tough and battle proven because they survive Naval aviator landings at the end of every sortie. (grin)

They tell me that ANYONE can land on three-miles of paved, stationery runway. . .

    Hard to argue with that.

  6. How about some videos of the Navy what invented Carrier Aviation. (I posted these the other day over on my own space…)

    1960s

    1970s

So very calm and collective up in flight ops…

Note those are Royal Air Force Buccaneer’s coming in for recovery.

And one more with some feeling….

  7. I don’t care if its Navy, USAF, Army, Marine or Coast Guard aviation, I’m glad they are all there!

  8. Murph- Yep, they are still used for ‘testing’… And the Marines still have a squadron or two of them. :-0 It was ONLY midnight where I am.

Msgt- I like ‘ours’ better ๐Ÿ™‚

    LL- True! ๐Ÿ™

AOA- Any airplane we can reuse, it was a GOOD landing! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Andy- More than you know…

AOA- That IS true… You should try a carrier landing some time ๐Ÿ™‚ 500fpm descent rate, 172kts across the round down, to a dead stop in 350 feet…

Montieth- yeah, yeah… if you discount the flying off boats the US had already done ๐Ÿ™‚

    Keads- Yep! ๐Ÿ™‚
