Sheesh…

What is it with my family and teeth???

Many moons ago, I got one knocked out and one chipped playing sports, oldest daughter got three knocked out in a fall, youngest daughter lost two playing sports, grandson already chipped one playing football.

AND…

Got a call from oldest daughter, and my 13 year old grandson managed to knock out his four front teeth while they were out in the boat… Crossing a wake from another boat, he slipped and hit the rail.

I swear, ‘somebody’ doesn’t like us… Sigh…  And the Dentist says he’ll have to wait a month for the swelling and other damage to show itself before he decides how to ‘fix’ this…

Needless to say, grandson is NOT happy that he’s gotta walk around for a month with no teef, and sounding funny…

Poor kid!

  1. Got my two front teeth knocked out in 6th grade.

It was helpful playing hockey. Made people think I was much tougher than I was.

Yes boys and girls, people played hockey without helmets and mouth guards back in my youth. People were much dumber then.

  2. Poor kid. Hope it doesn’t damage the family wallet too much, nor his ego.

I was hoping to read they were able to get them re-implanted quickly enough that he would be okay.

  3. Wow. That sucks. I hope he gets all fixed up and that they have dental insurance… those types of things cost $$$.

  4. Ouch! Has your family ever heard of mouthpieces?

Poor kid. The jokes will be bad enough, but for a teenaged boy to have to live on soft food for a month is just cruel.

  5. Ouch that’s pretty bad(btw this is coming from someone who knocked out one specific front tooth three times in his childhood, twice as milk tooth).

  6. WSF- Probably… sigh…

    Gerry- Yep! 🙂

    Snigs- No such luck… dammit…

Andy- Yeah, but… I’m figuring about $3k out of pocket.

Tim- Um… kinda sorta, now USING them is a different story LOL

    Mikael- Persistent weren’t you? 🙂

  7. You’re not alone. I had my front upper two teeth knocked out when I was a kid…sword-fighting with a friend and I forgot to duck. They broke off above the gum line. I had “crowns” screwed into the remain bases. I had those replaced with implants about a decade ago.

Getting hit like that is something you don’t forget.

  8. Ouch! Hope your grandson’s dentist does a good job.

My little sister lost two top and two bottom front teeth as a child in a “Hey y’all, watch this!” moment. Luckily, I have all of my teeth but wisdom, knock wood.

  9. As a kid we were shooting pool at a friends house and the cue flew.
    Right into my mouth.
I saw a thin line across the bottom of my front tooth.
That tooth is now shorter than the other.
I feel sorry for the lad.
    Boating should be fun.
If he gets implants, will they be adult sized? With all that implies for a 13 year old.

  10. Ah, poor kid. Got the reverse vampire look going. Too bad it’s not closer to Halloween, he’d be all over the hobo costume. Good luck to him and at least now they can put in permanent teeth rather than partial dentures and such.

  11. Ed/MC- I ‘think’ the plan is a retainer until he’s old enough (e.g. 17-18) to get adult size implants.

    Helm- Thanks!

    Julie- Yep… sigh
