‘Journal News’ hires armed security guards

By DYLAN BYERS |Β

The Journal News of West Nyack, N.Y., has hired armed security guards to defend its offices after receiving a torrent of phone calls and emails responding to the paper’s publication of the names and addresses of area residents with pistol permits.

RGA Investigations, a private security company, “is doing private security at on location at the Journal News as a result of the negative response to the article,” according to a police report first obtained by the Rockland County Times (Nanuet, N.Y.) and shared with POLITICO. The guards “are armed and will be on site during business hours through at least January 2, 2013.”

“Guns are good for the goose but NOT for the gander,” Dylan Skriloff, the Rockland County Times’ associate publisher & editor-in-chief wrote.

  1. It would be far more politically correct if they hired unarmed security guards — small, frail, unassuming, passive security guards to protect them.

Or in the alternative as sovereign individuals with a Constitutional right to keep and bare arms, they could arm themselves rather than relying on hirelings — but how progressive would THAT be?

  2. If they’re that worried about their own safety why don’t they just declare their offices to be a gun-free zone?

  3. This is a red herring, an attempt to play the “victim” against the nasty ol rednecks that carry bushmasters. This is a shameless ploy to play public opinion after it boomeranged against them for publishing the address of permit owners.

  4. I think that a few GUN FREE ZONE signs would solve the problem. Make it a “rule” that there is no violence and there will be none (like CanTexTim wrote above).

  5. JD, you silver tongued Bas***d.

Also, they are only “armed” with fists of fury. Judo moves only… we can’t have “good guys with guns?”

    err, can we?

  6. Reminds me of when Rosie O’Donnell was ranting and raving against guns, all the while employing armed body guards.

Chris Muir is currently exploring one of the aspects of that map and info release on women who have fled abusive men in ‘Day by Day’. And I hope that if anybody is harmed because of what that paper did that their family immediately sues.

  7. I thought newpaper folks believed the pen was mighter than the sword?

    Gerry

  8. Them being in the “journalism” business, I guess they would have publicized it by now if those calls, emails and letters had actually contained, you know, threats? Mine didn’t, did yours?

  9. I think this is business as usual. Run the mouth to get your name in the news or make money off your ramblings, yet when it comes to personal safety, the body guards a aloud to carry AK-47’s, Grenada Launchers, and machine pistols.

  10. Tim- Snerk…

MrG- That it is, nice catch!!!

    Juan- πŸ™‚

    TOTW- Concur!

Russell- If they have their way, no you can’t… Unless it’s a single shot…

    PH- Concur on both.

    Agirl- Yep!

Gerry- Guess they’re scared of what the pen wrote… πŸ˜›

    JUGM/WSF- Yep!!!

    Suz- LOL, good point…

CP- Of course, the are the ‘elite’…

  11. AND, every one of those addresses are now up for grabs to all thieves. When the house is unoccupied, they’ll know where to go to get MORE stolen guns!! This is an outrage, and it will not be mentioned that they were NOT harassed by any gun toting idiots. (where are the bomb making idiots when you need them)

I’ve noticed that the Prez, his kids, his wife, are always surrounded by “terroristic” types of weapons.

But THEY are special. OUR families aren’t.

  12. So maybe the Journal-News will publish the names of the security guards — and where they live.

[And if the Journal-News doesn’t, then maybe Chris Fountain will.]

  13. Did they publish the guards’ addresses? Don’t the people have a right to know?

  14. Tam- Not that I’ve been able to find out, and Putnam Co. refused to release any info to them… πŸ™‚

  15. Coffeypot, I’ll bet THEIR AK-47s have “the shoulder thing that goes up.”

    (‘Cause they’re elite you know.)
