Seven and a half hours…
That’s how long it took for multiple IT geeks to FINALLY get my email and B’berry working today! And I had a MAJOR budget drill due at noon… Sigh…
Geek 1- 0830, “I” cannot touch your computer, so do these procedures (proceeds to read them like I’m a first grader)… Doesn’t work… Well, “YOU” did something wrong! Do the same thing again, with the same results. Geek 1 gets up and walks off saying, “I can’t help you anymore, you’ll have to call tech support.” WTF???
Geek 2- 0915 on the phone- Well, “YOU” must have screwed something up, dials in, takes control and redoes everything for the THIRD time… Doesn’t work… Has me do a hard reboot (again), drops line…
0950, Geek 2 calls back- dials back in, redoes everything for the FOURTH time. Doesn’t work, now blows up all network connectivity to remote drives… Says he’ll put a trouble ticket in, tech ‘might’ be out tomorrow. NOT ACCEPTABLE! Request escalation, he refuses, ask to speak to his supervisor…
1030- After 20 minutes on hold, supervisor comes on with an ‘attitude’. I describe the lack of support, tell him I need to get back on line TODAY, since I’ve been without email for over two weeks because they screwed up and ‘migrated’ me while I was on the road. I request again for escalation; he tells me that is ‘my’ problem… I ask to speak to HIS supervisor.
1120- 40 minutes on hold this time, finally get a manager on the phone, do the whole explanation again… He immediately escalates me to Tier 1 support.
1140- Geek 3 support dials in, yep, it’s broke… I’ll have you fixed right up, whoops…
Yep, broke again… Boss is now yelling at me for a budget for next year- Pull an estimate out of my ass… Get a co-worker to send said estimate…
1230- Still rebooting and reloading, Tier 1 is trying to get in touch with a tech that is supposedly onsite. Finally gets my network servers and printers back. Email still AFU, but I now know I have 218 new emails…
1330- Geek 4 physically shows up- Talks to Tier 1 geek #3
Kicks me out of the chair, he and geek 3 go back and forth; I go take a piss, get another coffee, and ask a co-worker to grab me a sandwich…
1430- FINALLY get email up. B’berry still AFU…
1500- Geek 5 now involved on the B’berry side, finally get it working again.
1505- Go into 2 hour VTC, carrying my now cold cup of coffee and half a sandwich…
1730- Leave for the day- Total number of emails looked at/responded to— ZERO…
I ‘really’ don’t need Mondays like this… sigh…
And that right there is why I hate hate hate HATE networks.

Yep! Computers make the work faster and easier to manipulate… but doubles the stress factor by 20. Kids used to give one gray hair, now computers leave one bawl from pulling your hair out. Ahhh, remember the good old days when you had minions do this shit for you?

IT: I think it’s really Harry Potter. When I threaten to sacrifice one of the IT geeks to the server gods, things start working again.
Ima thinking I’da shot me a few Geeks before that was over. That’s why technology and me don’t mix well.
You haven’t come to the realization that computers have a sensor suite installed that measures the stress level of the user. The sensors measure blood pressure, pulse, skin color (redness or paleness), audio monitor for profanity, biorhythm calculator, a “wiggle” sensor to detect nervous mouse movement, and a few that are unacknowledged/waived.
The upshot is that the sensor system calculates the criticality of your processing based on the bio-sensor inputs, and degrades system performance in direct correlation to the sensor fusion. A negative-feedback system. Hence, the more stress you show, the worse the system operates.
