Gun show…

Tulsa is as big as usual… 4000 tables, and a whole bunch of high dollar stuff…

Pieces/parts are out of sight too!  AePilot Jim made it over for the day and he wins the smallest/most expensive part…  But that’s ‘his’ story!

The usual assholes and lowballers were out in force, and got pissed when the price didn’t get dropped to suit them… Too bad, so sad… 🙂

Ammo is coming down (a bit), but still high.  Availability was pretty good on the normal stuff and there was a good bit of .22 in evidence (and I did see hand trucks of ammo, including .22 going out the door today).  ARs are coming back down with stripped lowers back around $125, and lots of barrels, etc. available.  And for everybody that likes to rag on me about ‘expensive’ Colts, hate to tell you, but S&W are now right up there with them… Tables with $2000+ S&W and at least one ‘factory’ engraved Model 29 over $5000 (and the highest S&W box (empty) I saw was $125)!!!

As I alluded to, thanks to Tam I got the ‘right’ K-22 for instructing with, and here’s a quick pic of it.

  1. You think parts are high now? The UN small arms treaty bans the EXPORT of ALL weapons and weapons PARTs,(and ALL ammo) meant for civilian use. From ANY country TO any country. Whether they ratify the treaty or not. You just wait about six months –You’ll need a second mortgage to get a new AK hammer or Glock Mag , and you can forget that cheap import ammo forever. The Sheep and the FUDDs have been ignoring this one for a long time; and its about to jump up and bite them on the ass.

  2. I need to ask Tam about a S&W I’ve heard about but never actually seen and I can’t find it in the blue book or S&W’s catalog.

    It’s a K-22/32 Military and Police.

Supposedly it is a .22 on the old .32 frame used for handgun training. I’ve been hearing about it since the early 90’s when I first started working in my then future father in laws gun shop. There were supposed to have been a special run of the pistol for some state police dept, or a large metro dept. But other than that nothing concrete. I’ve heard NYSP, NYPD, Chicago PD and IN State Police are the main agencies who might have had these pistols made, and the run was between 100 and 250 pistols.

  3. If that K-22 is anything like mine, be prepared to love it. Scary accurate, dead smooth.

  4. That’s a fine-fine sixgun! I carried a loaner for a week or so while in the Trinity Alps gold-mining long ago, wish it was mine!!

  5. That is a nice lookin’ revolver. Very nice.

Stopped by a Wally World yesterday, no pistol ammo (e.g. 9mm, 40SW, 45 ACP), but they had some 45LC. No 22LR, but they had some 223 in 55 & 62 grain. Plenty of 243, 27, 30-06, 7mm-08, and some 308. Everything for plinkin’ (fmj) was at a reasonable price. So it is coming back, ever so slowly.

  6. Ray- Good point, and you’re right…

Murph- Well, blued… but yes! 🙂

Mark- NO help here… I’m a Colt guy!

Art- Other than the 12lb DA trigger, it appears to be pretty nice!

Jim- $320/500 rounds at the show, 9mm, .38 and .380; $120/100 rounds for rifle ammo for other than .223… .22 was running $60-80 for 500 rounds
    Ed- thanks!

NC- Yep, it will be a GOOD trainer!

  7. Tam and I talked on bookface. She said I’m probably thinking about a somewhat rare 6″ 22 built on the 32 frame. And it should be a J22 as the 32 frames equate out to the J frame size and not the K frame size. She also told me one of her grail guns. Which I’m NOT gonna tell about unless I can actually find one for her.

  8. Man, that is pretty, you got taste dude! Thats going to provide a whole lot of fun.

Old S&W model – 1953 .22/32 model. Here is a link to Blue Book of Gun Values with it (and others).

You are lucky you saw that much rimfire ammunition. We have a pretty small gun show down here, about 50 tables more or less and the one vendor with .22lr on table priced it at $8.00 a box for Remingtion Golden bullets – hijacker!

  9. The K-22 was the first handgun I learned to shoot.
It was my fathers. My younger brother has it now.
I haven’t fired it in decades. Now I have a mission.

  10. NFO, nice. I’ve been looking for one, too, to expand my wheelgun collection. Wish I had/could afford, one like Tam’s.

    • Part of the reason I’ve gotten into top-break Smiths is that I’m about priced out of the Hand Ejector market.

When I first got serious about Smiths ten years ago, you could still get nice Model 10s for $200. Nowadays you just about can’t touch a pre-’82 blued Smith of any kind for much under four bills unless it looks like it was dragged behind a truck.

  11. Ditto Tam. Got a good deal from a friend on a ’60s-dated Model 10, and I thought $300 was a steal. But if one prices NEW Smiths, $400+ for a good used Smith Wheelie is money well invested.

  12. Jenn- Training pistol (for me AND the students)… 🙂

    Mark- She would know!

    j.r.- Yeah, it’s getting ridiculous…

Skul- I’m looking forward to shooting it! And using it to train new shooters too!!!

Crucis- Thanks! And all of us wish we could afford her collection… sigh…

Tam- Understood, and it’s only going to get worse! FYI, I saw a 1903 32 Colt Hammerless at $2500… sigh

Les- The CHEAPEST one I saw was over $500, and it looked like it’d been drug down the highway for 30 miles…
