Random Stuff…

I guess the press are SLOW readers, they just got around to the parts in Robert Gates book were Gates hammers the congresscritters…

And it’s WELL deserved…

In particular Harry (spit) Reid…

“With all the major issues we had to deal with, my personal contacts with Senate Majority Leader Reid were often in response to his calls about Air Force objections to construction of a windmill farm in Nevada because of the impact on their radars,” Gates wrote. “He also once contacted me to urge that Defense invest in research on irritable bowel syndrome. With two ongoing wars and all our budget and other issues, I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.”

Personally, I think calling the congress incompetent is sugar coating it a bit, but that’s just me…

And in other news, this is a ‘goody’…

first 2014 baby

The first baby born in Nogales in the New Year was Demian Gallegos Rebiel, whose parents travelled all the way from Queretaro, Mexico.

Demian was born in Carondelet Holy Cross Hospital to Maritza Rebiel Barragan and Jesus Alberto Gallegos Canchola at 8:18 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2. He weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces and measured 19.5 inches.

Seems legit right?  But the ‘rest of the story’ is that Queretaro, Mexico is 1000 miles from the border!!! They now have their anchor baby! Which means three more on the welfare roles in Nogales, AZ and two illegals that get to stay (the parents)…

From somebody who knows the drill-

That is so wrong, yet has been going on for years:  They hire a cruz rojo ambulance to drive up to the inspection lanes at the Nogales (named after Dennis DeConcini) Port of Entry; apply for emergency admission to the USA, claiming exigent circumstances; the POE inspectors (CBP OFO) then admit them, as a “health & welfare” emergency, allowing them to travel to the local hospital (so much for nationalized medicine in Mexico — they have to drive right past Mexican medical facilities to get to the port of entry).

The ambulance drives up, and literally drops them off at the emergency room front doors of the Nogales Carondolet Holy Cross Hospital, whereupon they give birth to their new U.S. Citizen baby!  What a country!

In Mexico, they [the hospital] would hold your baby ransom –literally– until you paid for medical expenses, even though Mexico has boasted a nationalized medical program for several decades.  If you happen to be on vacation in Mexico and have to go to the hospital (or have a baby), then you are not released until you pay.  They will happily provide a cruz rojo ambulance to take you to the bank to have the money wired from your U.S. bank; no kidding.

Such reciprocity!  Besides, who really wants to be a Mexican citizen?

And one more, I’m at least ENDING on a positive…

The shooting happened just before 9 p.m. Saturday, when the gunman walked into the Mystic Gentleman’s Club at Southeast Stark Street and Southeast 99th Avenue and opened fire, said Sgt. Pete Simpson with Portland police.

The shooter hit three people, prompting a person in the bar to return fire, hitting and critically injuring the suspect.

/snip

The person who returned fire and hit the suspect was not arrested and was cooperating with police.

“Portland is a safe city; however, gun violence is pervasive. As we’ve seen elsewhere, it’s really easy for someone with a gun to hurt a lot of people,” said Sgt. Greg Stewart with the Portland Police Bureau.

Sooo… Where’s the national coverage on this in the MSM???

  1. Ah, Portland Oregon? The left coast has extra restrictive gun and concealed carry laws. How is that working out for them?

  2. It gets worse with regards to the ambulance story. Often the Mexican ambulance can’t cross into the US past the port, so they call a US ambulance to arrive about the same time as the Mexican. Both pull up, the pregnant woman is transferred, and she goes on to the US hospital. Why do the US ambulances go along? They get government money for transporting “indigent” persons.

Customs could shut this down immediately by not allowing anything other than true emergencies through, but the Port Directors have been terrified and cowed into submission by the liabilities lawyers. You see, Customs “isn’t trained or certified in recognizing a medical emergency.”

Around here, lots of the new mothers live right across the border. They may be in Mexico, but their sprog runs across the port every day to go to school “por gratis,” and I am dead-certain that a bunch of them are illegally on welfare, too.

  3. “Portland is a safe city; however, gun violence is pervasive. As we’ve seen elsewhere, it’s really easy for someone with a gun to hurt a lot of people,” said Sgt. Greg Stewart with the Portland Police Bureau.

    What a mealy-mouth statement.

  4. Gates was on Charlie Rose for the hour last night and the discussion was pretty entertaining and informative. Rose closed the hour by mentioning Gates has requested burial in Arlington, Section 60, where the troops who died in Iraq and Afghanistan are buried. Just a small insight into the man… I might have to read his book.

  5. Opus- The snark is STRONG with that comment… 🙂

Kermit- Yep, hearing ALL those horror stories… Lot of them I can’t even post due to the ‘sensitivity’…

    WSF- It is that…

Buck- I’m waiting on my copy to come in. That book I want in hardback!

  6. I think the law should be amended to say that if you are born her from illegal parents then the baby is illegal, too. If the parents are here on a legal visa or living here with a green card, then the baby should be American.

  7. When I was in Arizona and we stumbled across the leavings of a group of illegals, we always looked out for diapers and maternity clothes. Their presence turned our reaction to “Radio it in and continue mission” to “Radio it in and start tracking the group on the double so we can find these people before they really get into trouble.” Lots of people tried walking through the Huachucas to get their kids in or have them born here. My guess is most of them didn’t know they’d be walking.

It’s more than changing the law to get rid of “anchor babies”, BTW. Citizenship upon birth is guaranteed by the 14th Amendment. You’d have to amend the Constitution.

  8. Time to amend the Constitution to require that a child born here cannot gain citizenship unless the mother is already a US citizen, and we need another amendment that says that ANY costs associated with those here illegally need to be pressed onto their countries of origin and every single dollar spent on care for illegals and their anchor babies here needs to be taken back from their home countries. Start doing that and Mexico will build our border wall for us.

  9. DB- Understood, but we are now the ONLY country that allows this, so maybe it IS time to change it…

    Murph- Agreed!

  10. When we lived in Monterrey 2000-2002, I had occasion to be admitted to a hospital, due to a cat bite {the cat didn’t want to be neutered}. The FodGuy had to come up with something on the order of USD $2,000.00 before I was admitted, even though we had insurance that supposedly was accepted in Mexico. Upon my release, the hospital returned something like USD $1,500.00 to us, since I guess I wasn’t a demanding “ugly American” gringa ……………….. 😉
FWIW, we MAY be returning to Mexico ……………..

  11. Ed- Good point!

DM- Interesting… And good luck if y’all do! Stay safe!

    Rick- Uh huh…
