First delivery of stuff was made yesterday…
Oh yeah, and fireplace! 🙂 Hmmm, that reminds me, need fireplace tools.
And about half of the books… Peter and I were chatting Wednesday night at dinner about how hard it is to ‘cull’ the library and try to decide what to keep and what to let go. At least I was able to give mine to the VA hospital, but it was still a hard decision.
Note to self- Go buy another set of racks…
And then there was the ‘cluster’ of the safe move. It’s a rather ‘large’ safe, purchased from a local store (actually cheaper than shipping one with all the attendant hate and discontent), so there were four men moving it. Lift gated up to the bed of the truck, with the lift gate groaning and sagging.
Female store employee is standing on the ground ‘bracing’ the safe…
Friend says, “You might want to move.”
She says, “I’m fast, I can get out of the way.”
Friend shakes head, “That safe goes, she’s going to be a puddle…”
Getting it off the truck was not bad, but moving it in the house was actually kind of comical… 🙂 But it’s in and done.
Now back to unpacking…
Continued lite commenting and reading until I get some of the mess cleaned up.
Thankfully friends (you know who you are), are helping out, otherwise I’d be high and dry and totally screwed… THANK YOU!!!

Now that the Old NFO compound is coming together, you can start on the mortar pit and horse corral…
“…give mine to the VA hospital …”
There’s an idea for books I never thought of. Thanks.
Did you have any concern that your donations actually wind up in the hands of veterans, as opposed to a quick trip to the dumpster out back? It is the VA, after all.
Welcome to God’s country, by the way.
We once picked up a decent set of fireplace tools at Goodwill for real cheap.
Would if I could. Be there helping, that is. The good part is you don’t have a woman telling you where she likes stuff put. Luck man.
Wishing you luck that all goes well.
I do not envy you at all with the task at hand.
Be careful.
One of the main advantages of e-books is they are easy to move, and store. But it is hard to donate them to a needy library…
Good luck with the unpacking!
Suz
All- Thanks! Winning a few skirmishes… Battle is still TBD
Posted from my iPhone.
Well, I’m very happy to see you getting set up in your new digs, and congrats on getting the house that you like.
At the same time, I’m sad to see you leaving the area!
But… Ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
OBTW, large safes can be quickly moved using piano dollies. They clamp on either side, lift the safe several inches off the ground, and spin 360 degrees. Gun safes, GSA safes, whatever. Rentable too.
It seems rental trucks have lift gates with a 2,000 pound limit and a 5,000 pound capacity fork lift with driver can be rented for about $125/hour…just sayin’.
WN/Wilbur- y’all are correct, but when I can hire for guys a truck and they do it plus unloading 2500 pounds out of the pod for 200 bucks that is money well spent to me. 🙂
My Fort Knox safe came in the back of a Chevy dually and they rolled it in on pipe like old Egyptians – didn’t hardly scratch the floor, the sellers include free delivery.
It’s not the un-packing that get’s me, it’s the ~Organizing~ that’s all over my OCD.
Oh, I know the pain of moving a very large safe. I still have one more move into the new house and I’m dreading it since to get into the new house will mean going 3-4 feet higher from the ground. I will be calling a neighbor with his tractor for help.
That place looks like it’s gonna be great!
Still (no surprise) closing out the Ohio house. Mt Vernon has a “Friends of the Library”, a non-profit where anything from sales goes to the county libraries. They’ve updated most if not all of the computers. Pallets of books also go out through Paterson-Wright AFB. I’ve dropped off more than 800 books, mostly paperbacks, but a number of hard-covers including a set of 15 from 1903 which covers all of the historical, philosophical, and religious writings oh the 19th century – which includes Douglas in the “D” volume and Lincoln in the “L” volume. Wish we’d had room to keep them – or time to read them.
The 507 pound safe is sold here and the buyer has to get it out of the basement. I’ll get a new one in Denver.
What surprises have you found? We have some things I thought were lost seven moves ago!
Best of luck! Olde Force
Sorry on one hand you are leaving the “sorta” area. Very glad for you as well. I hope you enjoy. You will be missed, but OTOH, excuse for ROAD TRIP =)
So excited for you to be finally that much closer to where you were mean to be…
House warming?
