  1. Hey Old NFO;

This is tongue in cheek but unfortunately there is truth on your words….I weep for the future of our society

  2. My kids did a lot of the things you mentioned. They were walloped for the really bad stuff and spent hours pulling garden weeds, mowing the lawn and cleaning the garage for the rest. Amazingly, none are in jail or on drugs, nobody need therapy and all grew up to be responsible adults. Seems to me the proof is in the results.

    • +1 except they didn’t clean the garage, they shovel manure out of the barns, by hand, not with the bucket on a tractor…

  3. I wonder what’s going to happen when this “everyone gets a trophy” generation grows up, and doesn’t get the job they apply for.

    • The early outliers are already in the job market as recent college grads. Working retail. And massively pissing off their co-workers…..

  4. All too true… and we wonder why we are in trouble as a nation?

  5. Scenario 1 1970, car gets broken into fire arm is stolen during deer season. Principal asks that rifles be left in the office during school to prevent reoccurrence. Secretary complains being unable to reach or leave her desk without moving guns out of the way.

  6. We took our son out of government schools when he started H.S., and enrolled him in a Christian school. Best (and one of the toughest) decisions we ever made.
These days everyone talks about insuring our kids are exposed to S.T.E.M.. But our kids no longer know scheiss about our History.
And if you don’t know how people suffered to get where we are, you don’t respect those efforts and insure they’re not repeated.
I’m sorry to say… I think my country is gone.

  7. NFO, these were funny in one way and sad in an other. Today no one is responsible and every ailment is a disability. People don’t realize that being in debt to the government is akin to slavery.
And I too wonder what the “Everyone Gets A Trophy Generation” is going to do when they don’t get a job or get fired from a job. My thought is they will need even MORE medication and become “disabled”.
So sad. Not the country I remember.

  8. Bob- Yeah… sigh

Vicki- Yep, we ARE proof that it worked…

    Mrs.C- Can you say MELTDOWN???

    Ian- Bingo!

Tommy- LOL, we just kept ours in the vehicles, and didn’t even have to lock them… Course that was in the 60s…

    WSF- Agreed!

    GB- Understood, and agreed…

Pamela- Exactly! And no, in most cases/places it’s not. There are a few ‘outposts’ of old school, but they are pretty much limited to flyover country and Texas.

  9. Yeah, I should have been at least smiling at all those, but unfortunately I was mostly just slowly nodding my head.

  10. When I was a kid (graduated high school in 1953)all of us who went hunting or even gopher shooting, had at least a .22 rifle in our cars. And some of us even carried hunting knives on our belts during school. No big deal back then.

Also, when I was a Freshman in high school, I had had a fist fight (if one could call it that) for about a minute or so. When we decided that it was going nowhere. the “fight: stopped and he an I were very close friends from then on. Sadly, Ray died about 20 or so years ago.

  11. GR6- Yep! Dammit…

    Scottie- Heard that!

    Rick- That we are!

Rev- Don’t blame you a bit!

  12. My High School (mid ’70s) had a Trap Club (in California, even!).

A quick Google search shows that they were still competing nationally as recently as 2014. I am amazed . . .
