And your dogs start barking…
I decided to wait until it ‘cooled off’ to start mowing today, since I’m the only one in the neighborhood that hadn’t mowed yet. (yes, shaming works… sigh)
Then wondered why I was sweating like a stuck pig… Simple… It was still in the 80s! I’d looked at the LOW for the night, not the current temps… (idjit over here)
I have a pedometer program on my phone, and I didn’t believe it last week when I mowed, but today came up with the same numbers. 1.2 miles/3300 steps…
That’s front, side and back. Woof… At least the new mower’s self-propelled function is working! Now that it looks like we’re going to get a week or so without rain, maybe it won’t need mowing in three days!
In other news, I’m no longer number one… sigh… I fell back to #2 in Science Fiction and Fantasy, but I appreciate all the readers who took a chance on me, and made my little short story the number 1 best seller for five days.
A few folks have put up reviews, and I’d appreciate it if y’all would put reviews up. Those are what help sell books and short stories…
This one kicked over the giggle box, and verified my choice of pricing!
Anonymous Customer-
I liked it. For $0.99 what do you have to lose?
🙂 Thanks again for helping me decide to do a full length Mil Sci-Fi novel!
This is Texas, riding lawn mowers are authorized, even expected. They even come with beverage holders.
I was living at the bunkhouse with a small 1/4 acre lawn when I decided I needed more exercise. Got a push mower, for the bermuda lawn! Three times exactly, to decide I could afford a power mower…
Your yard is looking great.
Really liked your short story!
I too liked the short story and felt the .99 was well spent. I hope the full length is involving the same characters and/or universe.
As for the yard … try Florida for the daily rain and grass that has no fear of the lawnmower.
I anything needs cutting by a self propelled mower, my grandson does it. I RIDE the mower for the rest of the lawn. Too old to do it any other way.
I reviewed using my pen name.
On other fronts, you need to consider a RIDING mower what with your knee issues. I don’t use a mower, I hire from the barrio.
ah ha… now we know your pen name… Amazon Customer!
Kimball O’Hara
Remember Frank James, retiring and then over doing has killed more vets than anything I know.
Juvat- I know, but I’m also trying to rehab the knee, AND I need the exercise… sigh…
Brig- LOL, yep I KNOW that feeling… Had Bermuda in Florida.
Tom- Thanks! And I spent 10 years in Florida (NAS JAX), so very familiar with that… Nothing like mowing on New Years Day… sigh
CP- LOL, mine is too far away.
LL- Thanks! But I need the therapy too!
Brig- LOL
Ed- You do have a point! I’m trying to ‘manage’ what I do, and be smart.
We bought a push mower for the limited amount of grassy area in our new yard. Actually pushing it? That’s what our kids are for. 🙂
Also just added a review on Amazon. More of the story, please.
We have this strange presence in the air. It is called . . . humidity. It is unnatural. It sucketh. 60 degrees at 0600 is supposed to keep me from perspiring, not lead to a change of clothes and a half-bath before breakfast.
Mowing lawns? That is why I rent an apartment. As a plus, the manager is HOT and I can watch her until she gets on me for being a dirty old man, which I am.
Rev- LOL
TXRed- Yep, not a lot of fun over here either… At least we’re not swimming to the mailbox (yet)…
WSF- Why am I NOT surprised…LOL
I reckon I’m thankful once again for having been born & raised here, & living most (with interruptions) of my adult life here.
We’ve had cooler temps the last couple of days, so Sunday I killed the AC & opened the windows. About 1700 today, when I walked in, I thought how comfortable the house was. A few minutes later, the radio’s news & weather hourly update informed me that it was 83 degrees. I thought, “That explains why it’s so nice in here”: it’s been in the 90s.
Disclaimer: I checked a little after that, & it was only 82 on my deck; the other temp was out of Trashville, & they’re lower & in a basin.
TB- Yep, once you’re used to it, it’s not a problem. I grew up without A/C and had no problems. Now days, running in and out of buildings with A/C and a 20+ degree difference, gives everybody the crud.
Old NFO,
Craigslist can be a good friend. My perfectly good riding mower, originally from Sears cost me less than $100, seriously less. Maintainance parts and a user’s manual and repair manual (not yet needed) were less than $10. Lots of machinery and appliances are available cheap on CL.
My acre+ of “grassy stuff” takes a while even on a 42-inch riding mower so I’m thinking of getting a 54-inch — can’t imagine a walk-behind for what I have to deal with!
I get my exercise lugging bags of tanbark and digging holes to transplant stuff. I figure a good sweat-up is cardio of some sort. 🙂
