And the beat goes on…

I predicted when Heller was won back in 2008, it would be 10 years before CCW would be actually legal in DC, and they’d never accept reciprocity…

I was partially wrong…

It’s been two years since a federal court struck down the District’s ban on carrying handguns in public, allowing gun owners to apply for concealed carry permits for the first time.

But strict requirements adopted by city lawmakers have made it difficult to obtain the permits, with only 89 approved.

But 374 have been denied… So a total of .0007% of the population has applied…

Read the article HERE, at Washington Times.

Now it’s going to the DC Federal Court of Appeals, but I don’t hold much hope, since I think BO appointed two of the three justices that will hear the case…

659,000 give or take a few population, plus roughly 500,000 commuters that work in DC on any given day are unarmed… And a good percentage of those commuters from Virginia have CCW permits.

Lanier, the police chief used every dodge in the book to try to keep from issuing ANY permits, including the hoary old “Protection for the VIPs” and that having CCW people walking around would be a threat to everybody from the Pres to Lanier herself… Funny that nothing was said about all the illegal guns already in DC! Now she’s going to be the head of security for the NFL… Article HERE.

I am SO glad I’m out of that area…

And back in the part of the country where there is some sense of reality…

texas-speed-limit

And even 2 lane country roads have a reasonable speed limit… (actually 5 MPH faster than Oklahoma’s Interstate)…LOL

  1. The person who developed those road scallops at edge of stripe should be made a saint. So many lives saved as a warning you are driving off the road.

  2. The only reason Cathy Lainier got ANYWHERE in DC was because she covered up a potentially-career-ending domestic violence call involving a former city councilman-turned-mayor when she was but a mere sergeant. He brought her right up the ladder and gave her the power but not the ability. Word is he made her NFL gig happen too to ensure that she stayed quiet in “retirement”.

This is the woman who fought gun rights so hard in DC–a woman who made her fortune by denying justice and protecting a batterer.

  3. “I am SO glad I’m out of that area”

    And we’re glad you’re here!

  4. I feel the same way about my fleeing New Jersistan 16 years ago for the warmth of the Gunshine state. Concealed carry, no state permission to buy a firearm needed. The fact that snow is something I see on television only is just icing on the cake.

  5. Maybe the interstates are only 70 mph but the toll roads are 75 in OK. Does not help me much because I am usually towing my travel trailer and I try not to go over 65 with that. The blow-out I had recently reinforced that idea.

  6. And D.C. STILL has my gun. Several emails and still nothing. They not only hesitate to issue CCW permits, they aren’t in any hurry to return the ones back to the owners in legally licensed states. I should charge them storage fees… but then I might end up committing suicide with my confiscate weapon in the back of the head… with a double tap.

  7. j.r.- You’re right! But when you pull over to let faster traffic go by, it DOES get your attention!!!

Murph- Yep, I remember us having that conversation… sigh

    Juvat- Thank you sir!

    Roger- LOL, there IS that!

Titan- Smart man. Travel trailers are their own world. I’ve always been amazed at how poor a quality the axles and bearings are on those things!

CP- True, and that gun is gone… You’ll never see it again. If it was nice, it’s in one of the cops gun safes.

  8. I miss “reasonable and proper” speed limits. On the other hand, most Alaskan drivers ignore the signs in between towns, since there’s nothing else there. Of course, hitting a 1200 lb moose at 85 mph produces spectacularly unpleasant results, so there’s that.

  9. NFO, Pennsylvania, where I live, may have crappy weather, but one doesn’t have to give up their arm and 1st born to obtain a concealed weapon permit. Perhaps it has to do with it’s a big hunting state. I don’t know, but I’ll take it!

  10. God Himself loves the Texas FM road system. Who needs an interstate when you can cruise at 75 on a Farm to Market road?

  11. Rev- LOL, yep! And gross tonnage (or Moose) wins…

Pamela- Great point! And yes, there IS a ‘bit’ of hunting in PA! 🙂

Paw- Yep! I can make better time on FM roads than I can on the ‘main’ highways.

drjim- LOL, and the sooner the better, my friend!

  12. As an old Rocky Mountain guy, it grieves me to say anything good about Texas. With that, the best roads I’ve driven (and I’ve been everywhere) are in Texas. Even Hwy 17 over Wild Rose Pass is decent.
