Grey Hairs…

I can’t take credit for this, but I’m completely in agreement with everything said here…

The typical U.S. household headed by a person age 65 or older has a net worth 47 times greater than a household headed by someone under 35, according to an analysis of census data released earlier this year.

They like to refer to us as senior citizens, old fogies, geezers, and in some cases dinosaurs. Some of us are “Baby Boomers” getting ready to retire. Others have been retired for some time. We walk a little slower these days and our eyes and hearing are not what they once were. We worked hard, raised our children, worshiped our God and have grown old together.

Yes, we are the ones some refer to as being over the hill, and that is probably true. But before writing us off completely, there are a few things that need to be taken into consideration.

In school we studied English, history, math, and science, which enabled us to lead America into the technological age. Most of us remember what outhouses were, many of us with firsthand experience. We remember the days of telephone party-lines, 25 cent gasoline, and milk and ice being delivered to our homes. For those of you who don’t know what an icebox is, today they are electric and referred to

as refrigerators. A few even remember when cars were started with a crank. Yes, we lived those days.

We are probably considered old fashioned and outdated by many. But there are a few things you need to remember before completely writing us off. We won World War II, fought in Korea and Viet Nam. We can quote The Pledge of Allegiance, and know where to place our hand while doing so. We wore the uniform of our country with pride and lost many friends on the battlefield. We didn’t fight for the Socialist States of America; we fought for the “Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.” We wore different uniforms but carried the same flag.

We know the words to the “Star Spangled Banner,” “America,” and “America the Beautiful” by heart, and you may even see some tears running down our cheeks as we sing. We have lived what many of you have only read in history books and we feel no obligation to apologize to anyone for America .

Yes, we are old and slow these days but rest assured, we have at least one good fight left in us. We have loved this country, fought for it, and died for it, and now we are going to save it. It is our country  and nobody is going to take it away from us. We took oaths to defend America against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and that is an oath we plan to keep. There are those who want to destroy this land we love but, like our founders, there is no way we are going to remain silent.

It was mostly the young people of this nation who elected Obama and the Democratic Congress. You fell for the “Hope and Change” which in reality was nothing but “Hype and Lies.” You youngsters have tasted socialism and seen evil face to face, and have found you don’t like it after all. You make a lot of noise, but most are all too interested in their careers or “Climbing the Social Ladder” to be involved in such mundane things as patriotism and voting. Many of those who fell for the “Great Lie” in 2008 are now having buyer’s remorse. With all the education we gave you, you didn’t have sense enough to see through the lies and instead drank the ‘Kool-Aid.’ Now you’re paying the price and complaining about it; no jobs, lost mortgages, higher taxes, Obamacare, and less freedom.

This is what you voted for and this is what you got. We entrusted you with the Torch of Liberty, and you traded it for a paycheck and a fancy house.

Well, don’t worry youngsters, the Grey-Haired Brigade is here, and in 2016 we are going to take back our nation. We may drive a little slower than you would like, but we get where we’re going, and in 2016 we’re going to the polls by the millions.

This land does not belong to the man in the White House nor to the likes of Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Eric Holder. It belongs to “We the People,” and “We the People” plan to reclaim our land and our freedom. We hope this time you will do a better job of preserving it and passing it along to our grandchildren. So the next time you have the chance to say the Pledge of Allegiance, stand up, put your hand over your heart, honor our country, and thank God for the old geezers of the “Gray-Haired Brigade.”

I won’t tell you who to vote for, all I ask is that you GO VOTE. It’s important that we exercise that right, so that we don’t lose it!

  1. The last line says “Go Vote”.
    I’d prefer that many don’t.
Particularly those that are too stupid to research.
Or too greedy as to vote themselves freebies.
Or too gullible to believe Clinton is not a criminal.

  2. I won’t be so bold as to tell people who to vote for, but I will plead with them to NOT vote for Hillary.

  3. Yep, grey hairs, Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge. Party lines, milk in glass bottles with paper stoppers – delivered to your doorstep. $.25 gas, $.10 – 15 during price wars.
Took the oath with the rest of you, own more than one AR, and just bought a SOCOM 16. Ready, willing, and able to use them. GOD bless America.

  4. Yeah, I pretty much am in line with the theme here, except the whole ‘net worth’ part.
Going on disability and losing my home (and 2/3 of my income) pretty much trashed that!
And, yes, I have already voted, thank you!
(Now, if only the Stalinists count them correctly)

  5. Hey Old NFO;

Well some of us ain’t quite so old as to be “geezers” but we still believe in the same thing and served under a president that love our country Ronald Reagan. Yes e ain’t the geezer brigade but we still will fight for the same thing.

  6. I heard somebody at the store my friend owns the other day saying that they weren’t going to vote at all this year. The clerk asked her why, and she said that both candidates were lying, crooked scum, and not “worthy” of her vote.

The clerk (a friend of mine) asked her if she did vote, which of the two would likely get her vote. She replied “Hillary, of course. It’s time this country had a woman President! But I’m not going to vote. It’s my protest against ‘The System'”.

He gave her her change, said “Have a nice day”, and she left. I thanked him for asking her the second question, and he cracked up and told me wouldn’t have bothered to ask her if I hadn’t been behind her.

My clerk friend is from South Korea, came here 20 some years ago, and had to wait many years to be allowed to take his citizenship test. He aced the test, and is extremely proud to be a U.S. citizen. He is, of course, voting for Trump.

This is my friend who asked if he could hold my M1 Garand once I checked the serial number and found out it was middle Korean War vintage. He held the rifle and said “Thank you Mr. Garand, for helping to make my country free”.

We need more voters like my friend, who understands what’s at stake.

  7. Okay, this post brought tears to my eyes. It’s so well-drafted that nothing else needs to be said. And yeah, I’ve got one fight left in me; I only pray (please, Lord!) that it NOT be from the rooftops.

  8. Two points:
    – Eric Holder, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid are all part of your little gray hair club. For some reason, politicians in this country don’t seem to want to let go. Contrast this with other countries. I met the Estonia mil-rep to NATO. He was 60 and going back to retire after his hitch was up. He said, “We’ve had our turn. Now, it’s up to the next generation to take the country in the direction they deem best.”*
    – This leads me to my second point. Running down generations that succeed you says a lot about your generation’s parenting/leadership skills. If the student is lacking, do we blame the student or the teacher? Admittedly, there are bad students. However, if we’re writing off entire generations, they cannot all be sub-par.

Yes, it’s true we do not respect our elders in this country like we should. However, I’ve also experienced a lot of older folks that did not want to invest time into developing youngsters, even in church. I fondly remember my grandfather’s peers engaging me in coversation, letting me listen to them telling stories about the old times, or showing me something useful. Very few people care enough to do that anymore.

    * This was a fascinating conversation. He was a ballistic missile officer (a Major) when the USSR dissolved. He headed back home to Estonia and was put in charge of their air defense with precious little to work with.

  9. The grey haired club laid the foundations and most of the support structure for today’s nonsense: Social Security, Welfare, Medicaid, Title IX, an out of control Court, expansion/creation of the Alphabet Agencies…and on, and on.
Generation blaming? It is a useless waste of time, fun as it is. I’d rather work hard with people, good people. Which actually do exist in both the millennial generation and in those Yankee blue states. And not just in Texas.

  10. Yeah, the hair is gray but I am only over the hill because I am shooting prone from the crest. So many targets these days…..
