Erf…

Okay, I’m turkeyed out…

Yesterday was a second tryptophan coma, courtesy of a ‘team’ effort on the food and desserts…

And there was a Honeybaked ham, not pictured… Plus the leftovers from Thursday (about 1/3 of each dish was left).

And dessert- A trifle, cheesecake, and a pecan pie… Groan…

Yesterday, I ‘had’ to do something… So it was the battle of the leaves… 2 1/2 BIG trash bags full…

Round 523, and I won ‘this’ round, but those three Oaks are going to be dropping another butt ton of leaves shortly. But at least for today, the yard looks good! 🙂

And hopefully, I’ve mowed the yard for the last time this year.

  1. I went to mow the leaves yesterday and discovered that the mower deck belt and engagement cable were both missing.
Neighbor kid was the last to cut my lawn with it.
    Hours….

  2. The food looks like it was great.

Next time get all the serving spoons aligned the same. (or maybe they will find a cure for my OCD!)

  3. That turkey kinda looks like the one I pulled out of my smoker. Took all of five minutes to have the entire carcass de-boned. Loves me my smoker, I does!

  4. Heh, we moved 8 cubic yards of MULCHED leaves yesterday.

Good thing we had all those calories from Thursday to burn off….

  5. Your yard looks very good, completely ship shape. As to the food, never eat more than you can lift, and try to save room for dessert.

I’ve moved on from Thanksgiving leftovers. Last night I went out and had Mexican food to break the cycle.

…and speaking of cycle, I’m about to take the Ducati out for a run. Next week it’s back to the grind in Mexico City.

  6. Wow, look at all that green grass… 🙂 We’ve had to plow the snow off the driveway twice, if that makes you feel any better.

  7. Amen to the leaves. Have cleared the lawn for second time and cleaned the gutters, also for second time. Most of the trees are free of leaves on my property, but the neighbors have tons of large maples, sigh! No snow yet, around southern Lake Michigan we are in a strange slightly above normal pattern which may hold until mid December – that is to say the lawnmower is still on “ready” status. Mid 40’s to near 50 which is sweatshirt weather 🙂

  8. I mowed half the stubble out in the field past the “water feature” and loaded up the mower deck with mud from scalping all the small hillocks. Got that washed out and may or may not make a final pass on the last bit of weeds. Testerday went and got a blower attachment for the Stihl Kombi tool, to use on the Crepe Myrtle leaves that are all over the patch of “pretty lawn.” Snow in the Sierras on Sunday.

  9. Ed- Ouch! That sucks!

John- LOL, didn’t even notice that… Sorry! 🙂

RS- Yep, this one was deboned in about the same time!

B- Wow! You win! I’d still be in bed if I tried to move that much!

    WSF- Hmmm… Good idea!

LL- Enjoy, and stay safe down there, as I know you will!

Rev- Heh, and THAT is why I live in Texas! 😛

    Terra- That should be interesting…

NC- I’m amazed at the transformation you’ve done up there, and I’ll trade you Crepe Myrtle for Chinaberry trees… sigh

  10. I see marshmallows on the sweet-taters!

Yard-wise, I’m waiting for the two Bradford Pears to drop their leaves, then out comes the mulching mower. Can’t do much with the other stuff because we’ve had hard freezes but not killing freezes, and some of the roses are still blooming. Bad, bad roses. That’s a good way to get done-in when the real cold weather arrives.

Went to the gym this AM. I’m claiming extra exercise credit because of moving the additional post-Thanksgiving body mass.

  11. Your place looks nice. Still hacking away at the over growth here. Have a fellow coming to help me trim the big, long hedges. Arm strength not quite up to doing it all on my own, yet. Most of the oak leaves are down now, so blowing out gutters and shrub boarders next up.
High of 66 today, sun with broken clouds. Rain in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow.

    • 66 – snicker – did some Small Business Saturday runs today – it ‘only’ got to 89 per the thermometer on my Spyder 😉

  12. Trimmed back the grasses and perennials, except for the echinaceia. Finches and winter birds feed on it through the spring, so have at it. Cleaned leaves from the pond and skimmer basket. Extra mulch and a wet layer for compost. Got some spots that need extra mulch for winter into spring, so that’s tomorrow’s job (sore now from chop, cut, heave). TXRed will be pleased that I was reading a couple chapters of her latest novel while waiting for ibuprofen to take effect.

Time for one last pass with lawnmower to mulch leaves, then shift to snowblower, clean mower deck and sharpen the blades. No interest in NFL now, so that’ll keep me out of mischief. Or, I could delay that job and go for some pistol practice instead 🙂

  13. Grrr – still mowing grass down here in lower RGV, in fact will do tomorrow (manana) afternoon. Wife and daughter get back from San Antonio for school Monday. Fantastic weather though (low 60’s night – low 80’s for day time highs), and cranberry sauce, combined with ham and scrambled eggs = Good grazing !! Son and I are doing fine, pretty quiet and drama free (people with teenage daughter know this all to well).

  14. TxRed- Grrr… No choice… 🙂 And yes, we ALL added some extra mass.

Brig- Just trying to stay ahead of it. Take care of yourself, and get help if you need it!

Psycho- 😀 Good luck with the snowblower!

Anon- Oh yeah, 2 daughters… I know the pain of which you speak!

RHT- I’ve dealt with pines, no thank you! And yes, I do have those, and they work a treat!

  15. Hey Old NFO;

I would sub lease a 14 year old for cheap labor if I lived closer. We have to cut the yard one more time and that will probably do it for the year. The food does look good but the spoons were not lined up though….

  16. I’ve found a reason to be grateful for apartment living for the last few years! I’m hoping we get into a house on our next move, though. fingers crossed

  17. It sounds like there was plenty of food and good times.
Raking leaves sucks. If I had my way the little trees in the yard at my new place would disappear

  18. JMI- LOL, come to the dark side, home ownership is SUCH fun…

Rick- It was, and yes they do… Sigh

    • Not until we have our last PCS. It’s too stressful to own a home with this lifestyle.

  19. The ONLY thing I can say (sort of) positive about HOAs is that part of their la mordita is that they do all of the yard work! Not too bad of a tradeoff for us old broken down types!

  20. OldNFO, you’re slacking off your defense of America against the hordes of headless, legless, featherless, gutless trukey zombies!
Get those openfaced hot gravy topped turkey snadwiches, the turkey, cran jelly, turkey stuffing (layered in that order) sandwiches. Not, with the jelly in the center, it acts as a glue agent to keep the turkey and stuffing in the sammich. and the finally when the carcas is almost completely bare, Turkey Soup!

    • Or “turkey tetrachloride” as some of us public-school survivors refer to it. 😉
