Sigh…

It’s THAT time of year again…

The damn lawnmower started, and so did the weed eater… sigh…

And now my back is ‘talking’ to me! 1.2 miles to walk and mow/weedeat the yard, so I’m gonna get my exercise whether I want it or not!!!

YMMV, depending on yard size and whether you’re lazy (riding), or getting exercise. 🙂

  1. Circumstances permit me to bless a friend with a landscaping job, which is really good for me, since my back is oogly these days. I miss the annual ritual of starting the mower for the first time, though. A little. Well, not very much.
And oldest resident child is 13 now, so even if I wasn’t aiding with the employment statistics, I’d dump the job off on him.

  2. Figure you are getting ‘exercise points’ and call it good. Good reason for having a canteen of chilled water nearby.

I use a push mower as well, our city lot doesn’t require a riding mower. The frontage on our rural property (from fence line, about 270′ x 40′ to edge of road) has some slopes that won’t allow a riding mower for the most part so a push mower is in our future for good.

  3. We’ve had about 5 days of heavy rain. We’re gonna need to hire a bush hog for our itty bitty yard!

  4. 22 degrees here. Looks like mowing is still about a week away.

  5. We still have snow on the ground, although sunny spots elsewhere are clearing. But AccuHunch predicts 2″ to 4″ of fresh snow today. Sorry ’bout your grass growing already, though.

  6. Remember Jim, That which does not kill us, makes us stronger.
Revel in your new found strength and go forward. Your new found strength will make you a better shot and you WILL catch more fish. (The deer, well, maybe not.)
    🙂

  7. Hey Old NFO;

Well it is a spring ritual….don’t you pawn that duty on someone else…since you are a seasoned citizen, LOL

  8. Don’t complain too much… It’s snowing here in Michigan as I type this and warm(er) weather is still at least 10 days away at a minimum per the forecast… at this point I’m looking forward to cutting the lawn (I can’t believe I just typed that)

  9. I don’t see gopher holes…there’s something to be happy about!

  10. I need to mow my lawn. Alas, more than one dry day between the rainy/snowy days would be something of a prerequisite.

  11. Don’t forget applying pre-emergent, then fertilizing, composting, mulching, aerating, and watering – all so you can mow more often…

  12. I have to have a rider. With over three acres of open yard to cut, Judy’d be cutting every day if she had to use a push mower. I can ride but can’t do that kind of exercise in what once was a cow field.

  13. I was fine… until that quarter inch of water last week inspired the fescue to frolic. MomRed announced that since she could no longer see the Community Cat crossing the yard due to the tall grass, the Time of Mowing has arrived.

  14. Green and getting lush here around San Antonio, mowed right up until Christmas and started again around Valentines and now weekly. This time of year I have all sorts of stuff growing in my yard so I mow it and call it grass. I love my 20″ inch non-propelled mower with its Honda engine that always starts on the first pull after 18years.

The past three weeks have seen the buds, blooms and leaves growing fast and I love it. Four year old cypress trees are almost 20 feet high and I started them at little one foot saplings. Now after a decent rain last week we need more. Of course this time of the year we often get about a third of our annual rainfall in a couple of days so there’s that.

  15. Not pushing it, but instead I’ll get a workout from brushing. Wild grape and some honeysuckle going wild. I expect a lot of cutting and pulling this spring, and want to get a bunch done before all the undergrowth fills in.

  16. I was thankful today that the lawnmower was moved to the barn for the winter so my car could live in the mower’s spot in the garage so I don’t have to brush/scrape/shovel my car out every morning before I go to work. We had had a month of brown and wet (i.e. mud) and the grass was thinking about trying to green up. This morning I go out to feed my birds and there is 2 inches of white and cold with more coming down. Sigh.
Further north they were supposed to get 6-12 inches. They can keep it up there…I’m ok with them not sharing…

  17. I sorta wish I could bring some cows over from the ranch across the street to keep the greenery in control, but suspect the associated problems would outweigh the results. Oh, well…, back to working on getting the weedwacker and mower running. (tip: don’t use gasohol in small engines, it eats fuel lines)

  18. All- Thanks for the comments, and CenTexTim- Shaddap… LOL I pay somebody to do that, and need to rethink that…
