Well crap…

We knew this kind of law wasn’t going to end well…

Two Anne Arundel County police officers serving one of Maryland’s new “red flag” protective orders to remove guns from a house killed a Ferndale man after he refused to give up his gun and a struggle ensued early Monday morning, police said.

The subject of the protective order, Gary J. Willis, 60, answered his door in the 100 block of Linwood Ave. at 5:17 a.m. with a gun in his hand, Anne Arundel County police said. He initially put the gun down next to the door, but “became irate” when officers began to serve him with the order, opened the door and picked up the gun again, police said.

Note the time- 0517. You come knocking on my door that time of the morning, I’d be answering with a gun too! There’s apparently more to this than meets the eye, but I have a feeling it’ll be buried quickly by the MD dems. MD is very tight on guns, and is ‘may’ (read pretty much never) issue state.

  1. Never forget that “There gotta be a law” means that the resulting law, no matter how trivial it seems, ultimately empowers the state to uses lethal force to enforce it. Also never forget the the police are human and sometimes make mistakes in their enforcement of such laws.

  2. At least they knocked, small comfort. Years ago I knew, in passing, a guy who was a victim of one of those no-knock search warrants. Luckily he survived his wounds and was able to sue the city. The results of the search? Nothing illegal found.

  3. So one family member didn’t like the fact that another had a gun or guns. Probably wasn’t really any reason to submit the red flag but submits anyway. Back door Swatting?

I don’t think this is the first time this has happened and it will not be the last.

    • Old NFO,
I am afraid that you are right on that last point, in spades. The more of these stupid laws we see, the more angry people are going to get, with the obvious endings.
It is all well and good to make a law, it is a different thing to enforce it.

    • When Obama first won in 2008 I did some serious soul searching about what I’d do if they came to grab my guns. Then this nice young officer knocked on the door one cold night just to tell me I’d left the dome light on in my car. If he was tasked with coming to take my guns…God help me because I don’t know WHAT I’d do. It’s one thing to paste Molon Labe on our bumpers; it’s another to look a young man in the eye and need to pull a trigger.

  4. Hmmm.
05.17am, dark and rainy. Unexpected knock on door, end result is one person dead.
The Police Chief..’The order is needed.’
At time of event, police had no knowledge of identity or number of occupoants. There was the Grandmother, another Uncle, 2 Aunts and the victim’s girlfriend.
The reason for the anonymous person/s seeking the order are known only to police before and during the event.
The order can be taken out by family members, Police and ‘others’,…others. Any individual known or unknown to the victim?.
The order is to temporarily prohibit access to weapons when the person the order applies to shown signs of danger, to self or others. What signs?.
Everything pertaining to the order is confidential, unless ruled otherwise by the Court, obviously after the event.
It’s revealed that an Aunt had taken out the order, reasons unknown to all except her and the Police.
All family members were kept waiting down the roiad in the rain, and taken to the house one by one, nothing is known of events that ensued.(any records of interview?).
People, take it from me, with what has been done to Australian citizens over the decades regarding personal protection and family ‘values’, the same is now well and truly in your collective laps. No, it’s more than that, it’s in your living rooms, bedrooms, your whole house.
You are 1/2 a second to midnight away from being completely, totally and utterly screwed!. Has your national ‘boiling water’ achieved it’s designed purpose yet?….
    Hmmmm.

  5. This is very close to going pear shaped.

For me, I will not be playing defense.

And it`s not just the line cop that has to worry. I will know who passed the laws and who signed them.

If I am gonna be turned into a criminal, I will try very hard to be an effective criminal.
