Sigh…

And he learns all kind of new skills, and how to dress ‘properly’ for work…

And he learns about staying healthy, how to exercise, and a number of other things! AND gets paid for it!

Sigh… — 12 Comments

  1. My brother-in-law used to work there years ago. He wore a round hat and screamed at people.

  2. Hunter Biden (poster child for indulged elitist puke progeny) might have turned out differently if he’d been sent there to school instead of Yale (Satan’s Vatican).

    • I don’t think so. All branches of the U.S. Military have had many years to develop and implement a basic training program that succeeds in training many sizes, shapes and attitudes to fit one definition of a U.S. soldier.

      • MCRD doesn’t make soldiers.
The bar there is higher than that.

BTW Old NFO, when I checked into 11th Marines, (the 1stMarDiv’s field artillery regiment), per the big red board, one of the units had a CO named Cannon, and the senior enlisted man was named Gunn.

And some people think HQMC doesn’t have a sense of humor.

Best comic of all time: every summer, when Jeff McNelly, who wrote Shoe, had his nephew Cosmo get on the wrong bus, and end up at summer camp: on Parris Island.

        • And Cosmo more regularly visited Camp Cheery Point thereafter.

  3. Sigh? Why, are they closing it or something?

I have felt that America lost something when judges had to stop the “You have two choices, the Marines and no record or Jail and a permanent record.” I have met some of these judicial marines, so to speak, and they all say that the judge’s choice was the best decision they ever made.

Now, according to SNAFU, there is discussion on sizing the MC down to 150K total, with emphasis on sea duty again. Will be interesting to see where this is all going.

  4. All- Thanks for the comments! Aesop- ROTFLMAO! I vaguely remember that cartoon. Kinda like the Navy naming Captain James Kirk as the last CO of the Enterprise.

    Posted from my iPhone.

  5. Matriculated through there longer than I care to mention but I still remember the CG’s name; Barrow. Decorated Korean War officer, future Commandant and gentleman of the old school

  6. Not only do you learn how to dress for work, learn new skills, get lots of nutrition and exercise, a Marine gets to travel all over the world! And get paid, sometimes tax-free for the privilege!

  7. Boat guy- Yep, funny how those memories ‘stick’ isn’t it…

WN- LOL, oh yeah… And the Navy gives them free rides too! 🙂
