I wonder…

How many people even remember either of these versions…

“The American’s Creed” written by William Tyler Page in 1917 for a national contest to support America during WWI.
I believe in the United States of America, as a government of the people, for the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent fo the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign Nation of many sovereign States; a perfect union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice, and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.

I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its Constitution, to obey its laws, to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies.ā€” William Tyler Page, The American’s Creed
There is a second version, written a couple of years later by Dean Alfange that is also popular with many folks…

I don’t know about anybody else, but I’m good with BOTH versions…

  1. I’m good with both too, and there is a copy of the first one on the upstairs landing of the main stairs here — an original copy.

  2. Iā€™m good with both also, but I like the second one better.

  3. Yes I am in for both — where is that sign posted , I wonder?

  4. Heck, I’d be happy if everyone these days could recite the Pledge of Allegiance and really mean it when they say it!
I do like both of these, though.

  5. Gee, for some reason the schools I went to didn’t teach about either of those creeds, as by the mid 70’s the commie/socialist creep in the education system was already noticeable.

And to add to what Tom in NC said, I’d be happy if the kids today could sing the National Anthem and at least feel a little neutral towards said song and country. Be much happier if they felt a bit proud. Many kids do. Just not many city-folk anymore.

Worthless Commie Bastiges! Get off my lawn, my county, my state, my Country! Go someplace where ‘socialism’ works, like Cuba or Venezuela, and never darken these shores again with your worthless husks until you realize exactly how bad what you want is! Grrrr…

  6. I’m pretty sure Democrats WOULDN’T like either. I’m old, and don’t remember either of these.

  7. All- Thanks for the comments. I learned this in the 60s, but then I’m an old fart who actually took ‘Civics’ class…

    Posted from my iPhone.

  8. Either is good; second one is probably better for those who’ve stepped up & served in the military. My class in high school was the last one to be offered Civics. The next year, it became Social Studies, in which they learned … nothing, it seems.
