A couple of new ones from BD… — 15 Comments

  1. Fascinating and disturbing at the same time.

I may have to add a “Phased Plasma Rifle in the 40 watt range,” to the basic home defense supplies.

I wonder if there is an EMP round for the 12 gauge.

    • Yes.

There’s also a shaped-charge explosive and a sabotted armor piercing fin stabilized tungsten round.

But we peons aren’t allowed to have them or make them. Dammit.

  2. The Boston Dynamics systems run on some form of logic.
Congress and POTUS, not so much.

    • But will they build a bunch of killbots and set them loose in DC?

    • I prefer watching gangsta rap than dancing nurses or other leftist scum and villany.

And I hate gansta rap. Though it amuses me to see if I recognize anyone from the latest “The First 48” episode…

But not enough to watch more than one a year or so…

  3. Surprisingly, not, they are much more lifelike than the Disney Animatronic in the commander’s seat in the White House.

  4. How many man-hours did it talk to program each few seconds of movement and how many takes to get each of the 8 segments? They must have a pretty solid marketing budget to pay for that effort.

There are motion-capture packages that could have mapped Mick to the ‘bot without much programming time, or they may have used animation tools to set key frames/positions and timing so the SW does all the movement commands and timing.

Either way they impressive set-pieces to show how flexible the ‘bots are but not a show of how well ‘bots can adapt to a real (random) environment.

  5. Grr. I’m at an age when the first company I think of when I see or read “BD” is “Becton Dickinson” (medical stuff, syringes, IV tubing, testing, etc…)

  6. And that, right there, is why I’ve bandoliers full of M2AP for all my ’06 rifles.

    • Mike Remo of http://www.anzioironworks.com has been making and selling civilian-transferrable (thru NFA) 20mm bolt-action rifles. They are chambered for Vulcan ammo, and you can get inert TP and AP rounds at about a steak dinner apiece. If a legitimate enemy of the people shows up in an armored can, it is the right of The People to be able to own and use ‘effective can openers.’
