Talk about screwing the pooch…

Just in time for the holidays, the Pentagon is warning that tens of thousands of Navy and Marine Corps members could see their military ID card suddenly stop working Wednesday, despite what the card’s printed expiration date says. That could imperil their ability to log onto work computers or even get on base.

Those affected Navy and Marine Corps members are a mix of active duty, civilians and contractors, and officials were unable to break down those numbers further by Navy Times’ deadline Tuesday.

Full article, HERE, from the Navy Times.

You can bet this is also happening to the other services, but my question is, if they ‘knew’ who had the bad cards, why not notify the COMMANDS and have them get their people to PSD to get the cards changed out.

Of course the other issue is deployment cycles. If you’re on a boat, deployed, and overseas, the odds are you never saw that email. Also if the person transferred, they could have a entirely different email in a different APO… SO many ways this is wrong, and of course it has to happen over a holiday.

Imagine the E-3/E-4 trying to take his family to the chow hall for the soup to nuts Thanksgiving meal, only to find that he can’t even get on base, much less get the family on base, NOR can he go to the commissary to get any food…

Sigh…

  1. I don’t remember my ID card having to “work” other than showing it to the gate guard and having him say “ok”.

And they want all our guns to have computers that unlock them for use? They want to ban cash and go to a cashless society using cards?

    No thanks.

  2. Hey Old NFO;

Back in the old days, you just showed the cards to the guards…Now they have to scan them…Gotta make things more complicated ya know. Funny thins glitch happening around Thanksgiving….Winder if some network got hacked in some ransomware attack and the guys in charge don’t want to say because they don’t want to admit it because someone on the network opened an attachment from “olga from Ukraine”. Or am I being cynical?

    • In the old days, some guys would leave their ID in the ID-pocket-with-a-window. But first, they would fold up a $1 bill so the guard would, from a distance, wave through Abe Lincoln. Times have changed.

Military leadership not admitting an embarrassing situation? Never!

I hope those ID-less troops get their turkey on time.

  3. This shows the incompetence of the leadership at the top of our military. From the Pentagon to the Admirals and Generals and the Base Commanders. They are only concerned with making the military “WOKE.” God help us if something happens and China attacks us or Taiwan. I honestly believe that these “WOKE” Generals and Admirals will wait and wait and wait for senile old Joe to give the order to attack. We now have an invasion on our southern border and senile Joe and his administration is doing nothing to stop it and restore order to our immigration laws.

  4. Sounds like a job for MPs/SPs to take over, if the brass can’t stand up.
Cue Kipling, dammit, “While it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, fall be’ind”, But it’s “Please to walk in front, sir”, when there’s trouble in the wind, There’s trouble in the wind, my boys, there’s trouble in the wind, O it’s “Please to walk in front, sir”, when there’s trouble in the wind.”

  5. The new ID cards have had a long series of problems; unfortunately this isn’t surprising.
As far as I know, some bases scan and some don’t. Last time I was on a base they barely glanced at it.

This will be a hassle for the visitor procedures because everyone who can’t get on with their ID will go to them…

  6. Next step will be planting a chip in people which will not only be for ID but tracking.

  7. Hereso- Agreed!!!

Bob- You are, but with good reason!

Robert- LOL, the Marines were a ‘tad’ more observant…

    John- Can’t disagree… dammit…

    WSF- Yeah, right.

    Ted- Concur!!!

Jon- True, and on a day when everybody is ‘trying’ to get out early… sigh

Don- That’s the ‘logical’ next step (according to the left/progs)

  8. The Army has the same problem. They identified people who had a messed up ID card last month and notified them so they could get it fixed. At least that’s what happened in my command.

  9. You can bet that Milley, Austin et al won’t have that problem, none of the perfumed princesses will. The E-4’s with their families? None of those referred to above could give three shits about them.

  10. I think you overrated Miss Miley, etc. by two shits.

  11. Well, good news in that my nephew who just graduated Parris Island and Lejeune, and who had enlisted specifically to do Law Enforcement, was told instead that he would be a jailer.
We appealed to a Higher Power, and the gyrenes discovered they had enough jailers and not enough MPs after all.

  12. CAC card readers never worked consistently 10 years ago, no surprise shit’s still broke.

  13. Boat/Ted- Point… dammit…

    Ed- Wow…

Heath- Me neither. Especially the damned keyboards…

  14. It could always be worse. They could be behind in their gender awareness and sensitivity training! Now that would be a national security risk. At this point the west’s oponents don’t need to do anything but sit back and watch the collapse while eating popcorn and trying not to choke with laughter.
