I had to go get tires yesterday (oh my aching pocket book)…
While I was waiting, I got bored and started looking in displays of the little cowtown dealership I was in.
Back in the dark ages, the manufacturers used to have metal models of various cars sent to dealerships as ‘give aways’. I remember getting a 57 T-Bird model as a little kid (and must have destroyed it playing with it…sigh).
There were three sitting up on a shelf, and yes, dusty (it is Texas)…
62 Bel Air SS 409, with 4 on the floor!
69 Camaro SS 396
63 Split window Corvette
And I wandered out into the ‘bay’ and saw this little beauty… Special ordered and was being picked up yesterday…
Yes, it’s got a BIG butt!
‘Only’ $137,000… sigh… And a cowboy came in to pick it up. But I don’t think he fit in it with his cowboy hat on…

When I was a kid I wanted a Camaro like that. I ended up getting a Monte Carlo. And maybe I’m a neanderthal, but I don’t like the newer Corvettes. If you can spend that kind of money, go ahead and get a Ferrari. $137,000 is more than I paid for my house and both my cars!
I really despise those new Corvettes.
They look like a european sports car, not an American Muscle Car and they look nothing like the Corvettes of old.
At least the new Mustangs and Chargers have stayed true to the general look of their namesakes, even if I do think they’ve gone too far into the realm of technology and overly complicated things.
My neighbor bought a brand new Mustang GT last year. All the doohickeys and doodads and electronic gizmos are ridiculous. How long before all that silly crap starts breaking? I need a working engine and transmission. Steering. Brakes. A decent AM/FM Stereo. Cruise control and A/C are nice but optional. Everything else is just more things to break.
Of course, I’m the kind of person who buys a used vehicle and then drives it until the wheels fall off, so those kinds of things matter to me. For the people who change vehicles as often as they change socks, probably not a big concern.
But I digress. Don’t like the new Corvettes. Wouldn’t buy one with your money.
Now the stranger started talking, made it plain to folks around
Was an Arizona ranger, wouldn’t be too long in town
He came here to take an outlaw back alive or maybe dead
And he said it didn’t matter he was after Texas Red
After Texas Red
A good friend of mine has a split window vette he runs at the drag strip. He is 76 years old and I do not know how he gets into that vette. The engine he has in that car is not stock. I watched him top 132 MPH in a 1/8th of a mile last year. His season will be cut shorter because of shoulder replacement surgery this year and I know it is bugging the hell out of him.
Would that be Robert M.? If so, he rode Ducati sport bikes back in the 90’s to keep his back functional. Superb engine builder.
If I had a $137K and I think I would spring the extra moola for the Museum pick-up option.
Thank the cowboy for helping out the economy here in Bowling Green.
I believe the mid engine makes the handling perform with the much higher priced european cars. Yes I like the looks of the split window better as well
BTW the Lowest level Ferrari , the Roma starts at $234,000.
The Spider is $580,000.
The 63 stingray was always my favorite vet. And the new ones have active HUDs among other amazing feature to go with that price tag
All- Yep, LOTS of $$$ for a Vette, and IF I could get in it, I’d have to fall out and climb up the side to get back vertical… sigh
If I had that kind of money, Iād be buying something from Case or J-D.
One of my Johnnies is 24yo and could do with an upgrade.
Never a fan of Corvettes and definitely not the new model. Back in the day was a salesman at a Dodge dealership. One month the “perk” for the top salesperson (trophy wife widow owned the place) was driving a Viper for a day. That is a beast!
Peter- There you go with reality…stop it! š
WSF- That they were!
Those old metal cars were neat, but I’ll pass on the ‘vette!
“the Lowest level Ferrari , the Roma starts at $234,000.”
I remember when you could buy a really clean 308GTSI used for about $20k. I seriously thought about it but didn’t know where I’d store it. Sort of wish I had but otoh I didn’t have anywhere to store it so it would probably be trashed now. Now they’re pushing $100k and they are a lot older than they were then.
Oddly I remember writing and posting something yesterday about how my house and all four cars and trucks I’ve ever owned total out to about $140,000. Not here so maybe I forgot to click post. Either way, I feel better about my frugality. š
LSP- Agreed!
Hereso- Oh yeah… sigh…
