Apparently the perpetually offended have found a ‘new’ thing to be offended about…
Designers aren’t perfect. Sometimes a designer can create a logo or product that communicates a message that nobody intended to come through. Those mistakes can sometimes be embarrassing.
Bath & Body Works recently released a line of winter-themed candles just in time for Christmas shopping. One of the candles is called “Snowed In,” and the artwork on the outside of the jar is supposed to evoke those paper cut-out snowflakes that we call made as kids.
There’s one teeny-tiny problem with the artwork. Some people say that it looks like Ku Klux Klan hoods.
Full article, HERE.
Now I’ll be the first one to admit I don’t shop there, and I don’t ‘do’ candles unless they are emergency candles…
But I kinda doubt Bath & Body supports the KKK. After all, they obviously didn’t ‘see’ the problem, nor did anyone else until it hit the shelves. I just have to wonder who jumped on this one and how it got such wide dissemination so quickly.
It’s also interesting to note that Bath & Body immediately caved to the wokies, pulled the candle, and apologized. I just wonder if there will be a sacrificial firing to go with it?
You know what really scares me? These people vote… sigh…
Looking at the picture of the candle, it could be a lot of things including the paper cut out snowflake it was supposed to be. I see space aliens, Zulu warriors, a snake looked at from above, etc. Some people just have too much time on their hands.
yeah, first thing I was was space aliens
Ah! It’s come to this…
Snowflake on Snowflake violence!
I wonder if this “klandle” design was intentional given all the free marketing they are getting??!! If so, brilliant campaign…
Pareidolia is a thing. Do The Perpetually Offended have focus groups trying to find “offensive images”?
What happened to diversity? KKK members are being oppressed!
I’m offended by the ugly-ass design; I don’t think (frozen water ) snowflakes have circular holes in ’em.
The design is obviously a terrorist plot to sow fear in the UFO crowd- I see a cluster of “greys” looking down upon a hapless human about to be probed.
The company shoulda said “Shaddup, ya twits. It’s an effin’ candle”.
It was a bad design in general, snowflakes have 6 sides, not 12 and the spaces are hexagonal as well. AI art generation fail.
Yeah, my first thought was konehead space aliens. As noted, snowflakes have six sides–because of the orientation of the atoms in a molecule of water.
Next, these morons will be running around with their hair on fire because someone told them their water system was contaminated with Dihydrogen Monoxide.
Another vote for space aliens. Or one of those cheap fans you get from Oriental Trading or The Party Stop to use for themed decorations.
In my work area 30 years ago we kept a Material Safety Datasheet on dihydrogen monoxide. One tablespoon could be fatal.
Oh, Dihydrogen monoxide’s not so bad, but that Hydroxyl Hydride, now THAT’S Bad Stuff!
All- Good points, thanks! I never thought about aliens…LOL And dihydrogen monoxide…snerk
By apologizing, they’ve lost. They’ll take a drubbing in social media, and the idjits will just come back for another attack and want another pound of flesh.
The proper response to the accusation: “It isn’t.” Nothing further, just that.
And then continue right on selling it, enjoying the increased sales from the ginned up fake outrage.
I thought they were leaves.
