USPS at its ‘finest’???
“The Postal Service Electric Truck: A Comedy in Two Acts” is not the name of an off-broadway musical. But if someone writes it, I want royalties.
The story is a familiar one when discussing the efficacy (or lack thereof) of EVs. Joe Biden, bless his departing soul, thought that the United States Postal Service should set an example for Americans by using electric trucks to move the mail around. He and the Democrats stuffed $3 billion into the farcically misnamed Inflation Reduction Act as a down payment to force the postal service to purchase 60,000 electric postal trucks at an eventual cost of $10 billion.
What happened next was worthy of Buster Keaton or the Keystone Kops.
Defense contractor Oshkosh got the contract and not only proceeded to screw it up but also kept the bad news from the Postal Service brass for more than a year.

Soooo, 3 billion has got 93 trucks delivered… That’s a ‘tad’ expensive…
Like new fighter expensive…
And they are building ONE a day, not the 80 they were supposed to be doing. Seems to oh, a ‘bit’ of a problem here, or is it just me?
We know EVs are a failure in rural areas, extreme cold, etc. but USPS is supposed to use these things in ALL climates and locations.
Something tells me our mail is going to be even slower being delivered than it is now…
In some areas and climates, Pony Express would be faster. In others, I suppose they could work if the charging stations existed, if the electrical grid has the capacity and of course if we have enough captive unicorns to use their farts to power the grid. I’ve seen this “we will set an example for the world to follow” B.S. before. Ask me about the Clinch River Breeder Reactor sometime.
I remember the Clinch River Breeder Reactor that wasn’t.
Another contract for the new administration to cancel immediately – although the big brains in the Biden admin probably wrote the contract so that any attempt to cancel would reward poor performance and penalize taxpayers.
And just wait until the EVs catch fire and all the mail in them burns to a crisp.
And then we have this–
Mr. Dejoy – from childhood he grew physically, but he never really grew up. What a pathetic display of immaturity on display.
DEI; Things fall apart; The centre cannot hold; entropy accelerates under Leftie, DEI supervision.
Current price per unit would be about $1,000,000.00 more than the presidential limousine.
But they do appear to be hand crafted.
These massively expensive boondoggles are created for one purpose. To create a stream of taxpayer dollars for some useless project. That stream of dollars facilitates much of that cash being diverted into private pockets at every point of the process. It’s a scheme to steal. Not an attempt to actually accomplish anything. Kalifornia didn’t spend BILLIONS on a train to nowhere. They spent millions. With most of the money being stolen.
All- I can’t disagree at all!
Neither snow nor sleet nor dark of night shall stay this courier from the swift completion of his appointed rounds!
That’s gone the way of the iron horse. The Post Office is run by labor unions and is guided by moribund union rules.
One thing is sure as death and taxes. The price of a postage stamp will increase.
I don’t know the contract arrangement, but rural mail delivery around here (S Central Oregon, where Deplorables live) is done by people driving their own vehicles. Sometimes a jeep, sometimes a van. It’ll be sporting a US Mail sign in the back, but FedGov didn’t buy it.
In the city, yeah, normal USPS vehicles, but out of town, it’s what’s suitable.
(UPS occasionally uses a 4 x 4 pickup with a box bed when the weather is worse than normal. Most of the time, they use the standard stuff. FedEx is pretty much the same way.)
