It appears the WAPO is getting ‘new’ directions…
Amazon founder and owner of The Washington Post Jeff Bezos announced a new direction for the paper Wednesday morning as a reckoning among the media in a new Trump era continues.
“I’m writing to let you know about a change coming to our opinion pages. We are going to be writing every day in support and defense of two pillars: personal liberties and free markets. We’ll cover other topics too of course, but viewpoints opposing those pillars will be left to be published by others,” Bezos wrote in a letter to Washington Post employees and posted on X. “There was a time when a newspaper, especially one that was a local monopoly, might have seen it as a service to bring to the reader’s doorstep every morning a broad-based opinion section that sought to cover all views. Today, the internet does that job.”
“I am of America and for America, and proud to be so. Our country did not get here by being typical. And a big part of America’s success has been freedom in the economic realm and everywhere else.

The WAPO, like most of the ‘major’ papers has been bleeding subscribers and advertising dollars for years.
And the WAPO was fully ‘invested’ in the leftist agenda, parroting the words/phrases/talking points of the left since at least 2008. Apparently, Bezos doesn’t like losing money and has made a decision that will be, to put it mildly, VERY unpopular with not only the staff but also with the Washington, DC insiders…
Is this going to be too little, too late?
I don’t know, but the results, if we see any, will be interesting to put it mildly…
The other question that comes to mind is what is Bezos really trying to do???
I don’t have a clue. how about y’all???
It is his paper , he can run it anyway he wants , even into the ground . I ‘ll admit I don’t even subscribe to any papers ,not even my rural small town paper . I do always find one at the local tire store and do the crossword while I am getting some new rubber or getting a flat fixed . I grew up with newspapers , but I find that now I can do a 30 minute lap through different internet news aggregations and pretty much stay in front of things . Of course one still needs to run news inputs through a bullshit sieve .
+1 to the above by Botswain. Tough to be a writer for print journalism. Why pay for subscription when you can read for free and from so many sources ?
Not sure what Bezos is up to but with Epstein List possibly release today, would be a test to see how much coverage it gets from WAPO.
It’ll be interesting to see how this and other changes work out. For years highly visible billionaires have been very visibility Left; we’re seeing a change led by Musk but followed by other such as Bezos here.
It could be the beginning of a sea change… Could.
The WaPo has been a Democrat/Left newspaper since at least the 1960’s. The Washington Times is the center/right newspaper. The Washington Examiner (unapologetic right) is the most fun to read.
In my area, all the more conservative reporters, even in the sports department, were let go about a decade ago. It was interesting in the reports I saw that the current opinion page editor at the Washington Post quit rather than follow Bezos’ directive. How you could be against supporting personal liberty and free markets escapes me.
“Is this going to be too little, too late?”
Far too late. I had already tuned out WaPo as a leftist propaganda source. I avoided the site, and when other newspapers would reprint their articles, I’d ignore those articles.
They chose to shred and destroy their credibility. Choices have consequences.
Bezos is at least a little utilitarian. He also must be seeking revenge for the way the establishment screwed him at Amazon.
All- Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I do still subscribe to our little local paper, for the comics and crossword (and for firestarter).
I tried an online subscription with our local rag as local news is of interest. I was soon receiving more advertisement than news, pop ups while reading an article, etc. Canceled.
