Why today???
It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. The Flag Resolution stated “That the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.”
Of course we’ve added a few more stars (and States) since then…
This was taken at sunset, as it flies everyday! And yes, it is lighted at night.
In our little town, they put out the flags (both US and Texas) on important dates like Memorial Day, Flag Day, the 4th, and Veterans Day. Gotta love ’em for that!
Not to forget today is the senior service’s birthday.
Headed outside in my bathrobe to put the flag up. Thanks for the reminder. I don’t fly mine every day because it is mounted to the wooden pillar at the front of the house, and both house and pillar are 116 years old. The screws keep tearing out, no matter how long a screw I use. I need a flag pole.
The local Kiwanis lets you rent flags on poles. They came by at 0500 and put one in front of RedQuarters. The house-mounted flag had a terminal bracket failure in 70+ MPH winds.
The semi-major street near RedQuarters is almost completely lined with flags today. Very good to see!
