Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced Tuesday that a Civil War monument removed under the Biden administration from Arlington National Cemetery will be restored to its original location.
The monument, known as the Reconciliation Monument or the Confederate Memorial, was removed by the Pentagon in December 2023 under President Joe Biden because of its links to the Confederacy. First erected in 1914, the monument sat in a section of the cemetery where around 400 Confederate soldiers were buried.

Now we have what Arlington’s own site says about it, HERE.
Frankly, we were surprised he didn’t have the confederates dug up and dumped outside Arlington, too…
Regardless of how hard some people try, you cannot erase history, but they sure as hell gave it a try in Virginia! Also, assigning ‘meanings’ to something done over 100 years ago without knowing the people involved, or the sentiments of the day are… revisionist to put it mildly.
I’m glad it’s being restored, and put back in Section 16.
All the Confederate statues that have been removed throughout the south and across the nation must be put back in place. The history of our country demands it. When we fail to learn from history we are bound to eventually repeat the same mistakes again.
Completely agree with John up there. This includes the memorial windows to Generals Lee and Jackson in the so-called National Cathedral, which won’t be until they are back.
Never mind General Lee in the middle of Richmond.
Nope, need to do a historically accurate reconstruction of the Gen. Lee statue too. And if they aren’t going to abolish the Dept of Ed, start teaching the correct history of the war. Rant endeth.
The post on the Arlington Cemetery website does an excellent job of truly describing the history behind the statue, and doesn’t pull any punches.
The civil war was a horrible waste of life.
Denying that there were good and brave people in the Confederacy is simply evil.
The Union was complicit in starting the conflict. My friends from the South call it the war of northern aggression.
It made me sick to visit Gettysburg.
People want to forget that you can disagree strongly with someone, and yet respect them. It’s that sloppy, “You’re wrong so you are evil,” combined with “If we didn’t see it, we can make up our own truth,” sort of simplification.
Whatever one things about the ideals of a group’s leadership, honor is due to the men who fought and gave their all, be it for the Confederate States of America, Imperial Austria, or the Red Coats of the American Revolution.
X2
I suspect it’s more a case of never knew than forgot.
I am not a fan of the CSA.
It is absolutely true that the confederate fighting man was brave, and honorable, compared to those moderns who are communist and raised on the revisionist history. The confederate fighting man deserves his due mead of glory, the credit for being better in some ways than so many of these woke henwits with no peace in them.
Anyway, the confederate monuments should be restored, or we should remove stuffs like the so called eternal flame from Arlington, etc. If ‘racist’ displays must be removed, then there is no reason to officially credit the existence of any Democrats in office since the time of Hoover.
Biden, Obama, Pelosi, and JFK are as worthy of destruction of memory as are the confederates.
The modern professional-managerial classes’ elite race war ideology is as much an evil as was chattel slavery. It is as racist or more than chattel slavery, and may also have as much de facto slavery. The virtue, if any, is that it is not actually de jure slavery, and that if stuff is being as brutally enforced, that enforcement is not as openly known.
“Frankly, we were surprised he didn’t have the confederates dug up and dumped outside Arlington, too…”
Considering the Union stole the land from General Lee’s family during the Civil War and didn’t allow Confederate veterans to be buried there till 1900, I’d as anti southern sentiments have always been on displayed there.
It’s good when the adults are back in charge.
What Biden did was against the law. Seriously, Congress, after WWII, passed a law saying all Cofederate memorials and cemeteries are actually US Military memorials and cemeteries.
That law hasn’t been rescinded.
Biden et al should all be brought up on charges.
Going to have to take a number, there’s a whole bunch of need to be charged ahead of that.
All- Thanks for the comments, and yes, things need to be done. Sadly, apparently many of the statues from Richmond and other places have been destroyed.
Regardless of what we ‘think’, there were honorable folks on both sides of the equation.
They ought to find EVERYBODY that took down these statues and fire them then throw them in the brig.
