Is a quick way to a bad ending…
A union that represents CBS News journalists told staffers they won’t be punished if they ignore a memo from their new boss Bari Weiss that has asked for details on their work duties, The Post has learned.
CBS “informed us that you will not be disciplined if you do not respond to the email, indicating that a response is optional,” Writers Guild of America East told employees in a message obtained by The Post.
Any replies also will not be used against workers as “a basis for discipline, discharge or layoff,” according to the message.
There is no way this ends well for CBS and Weiss…
If senior management won’t back her, she’s toast. Any orders, etc. that she originates will be ignored by the employees that don’t ‘like’ them. And that will end up further dividing an already divided news room that Weiss was supposed to be ‘fixing’.
I’ll bet Weiss is gone in less than a year, probably within six months…
And CBS will spiral further down the rathole of bias and irrationality in their coverage.
Sigh…
All of MSM is dying. They have not changed and will not before the end.
Bari Weiss has one option. He can find out who made that statement to the Union and fire them with prejudice. If it is more than one person, they all get fired.
If the Union refuses to divulge the source of that information, then Weiss will demand that the talking heads report that their Union is making up statements.
We watched CBS because of “Uncle Walter”.
He turned out to be a full-blown Socialist, and possibly the reason we lost my war.
I rejoice in their misery.
Weiss has no choice but to go public with a restated demand for that info, along with a statement that the responses WILL be required and used to review BOTH the person and their job, and if corporate will not support her, burn it down on her way out the door.
If she does not, she is only a beard for more of the same MSM.
All- Agree with your comments, in any case, this doesn’t end well for CBS, IMHO.
Does not affect me personally as I don’t watch any MSM television news other than short clips. Overall, it matters. Many fellow citizens still get most of their “news” from MSM television.
Sad, because it will likely not change.
We need to collectively invest in a bottling plant for all of the Tears of Liberals that seem to be flowing. Such a major loss of water, maybe ship it to Arizona or Nevada to replace what is lost into SoCal from the Colorado River.
A boss has the NEED, and therefore the RIGHT, to know what employees are doing. It wasn’t necessarily an adversarial request until the WGAE made it one, by telling members they didn’t have to respond.
Yes, it COULD have provided the boss with information that could be used in a job action; by refusing to provide responses, though, I think that job actions are more likely, not less likely.
Such a drastic demand by a new senior manager usually shows a deep concern for the bottom dollar. Smaller problems ballooned into larger problems, a lack of leadership demanding integrity is missing, and unless a substantial effort is made to tackle the people problems is attempted, the losses (including trust in the product, or service) will never be recovered. I’m thinking investors will sell, and the network will either be sold, rebranded, or disappear.
WSF- Same here, but I ‘check’ them to see what the other side is doing.
WN- Yep… 🙂
Pat- Good point!
Jess- Agreed!
die, Die, DIE!!!
It’s the LAME stream media. Nobody cares if they survive.
I don’t see firing as punishment per se.
Boss: I asked you what you did for the business.
Woker: I refused to answer!!!
Boss: I assumed, lacking evidence to the contrary, that you not telling me what you do meant that you do nothing for the business. You’re fired.
No response? Not a problem; you gone. Laying people off is gut wrenching. No response takes care of that problem.
