Stayed up way too late last night, watching the CFP championship game.
To my way of thinking, the ‘play’ of the game was IU’s quarterback Mendoza on a 4th and 5 from about the 12 yard line, with a called quarterback sneak. He took a big hit as he crossed the goal line, but that score was critical!
Indiana won on an interception with less than thirty seconds left in the game, but it was a game that was literally back and forth the entire game. Two great teams, playing their hearts out.
Probably the best game I’ve watch this year, college or pro!
Oh, and it’s Indiana’s FIRST ever national championship! They went 16-0 never losing a game the entire year, which I believe, also sets a new record.
Congrats to Indiana, but Miami can still go out proudly, as they gave it their all.
I’m sleeping in this morning…zzzz
I wasn’t planning on watching any of the game. I’m not much of a football fan, but my fella was watching. When I walked through the living room during the 4th quarter I got sucked in!
I watched the whole thing. Great game. Agree is probably best I have seen all season. Not much in the way of offensive scoring but both teams seemed evenly matched on both sides of the ball. Mendoza sure can take some hits and keep going. He never seemed to lose his cool and played through the pain. Happy for Indiana’s first national championship. Well done. I really like their coach.
Not since Yale in the 1890s has a team went undefeated on the road to national champion.
Mendoza is the real deal, attention Raiders.
Tennessee did it in 1998 going 13-0, but that was before the current playoff format.
Presumably Yale in the 1890s was also before the current playoff format.
Not a sportsball fan, but intermittently watched the LA Rams vs. Chicago Bears game as an act of companionship. The 17-17 tie into OT was definitely exciting. Companion (a big Bears fan) went on potty break and missed the 20-17 field goal. Life is so unfair. 🙂
+1 The tying TD was scripted by Hollywood
It had Chris Collingsworth speechless. A great thing in itself
Gerry: Even I started hollering at that TD, and I didn’t care who won.
ICSL: Other than that, how was the football game?
Tuvela- LOL, it does that…
Houston- Agreed!
Saved/Mike- Yep, that’s why I said ‘modern’ era.
Robert- Ouch!!!
Gerry/Robert- That it was…LOL Glad to hear him speechless.
If the refs had called the game fairly, Indiana would have blown the Caines out. At east three personal fouls against Miami that were not called, including one targeting which hit the IU QB in the chin, which was so obvious the folks on the space station could have seen it–not flagged. Miami IS back–back to the days of the cheap shot convicts of the 1980s. Happy for the Hoosiers, they deserved it.

(fixed typo)
I’m from Indiana. My dad was a huge IU basketball fan.
My reaction when I heard that they were in the football championship was “IU has a football team?”
Don’t have ESPN (and not willing to jump through the hoops necessary to figure out how to see it some other way) so no game for me. Wish I’d seen it, sounds like it was a good game.
Fish- Don’t disagree…
Sailor- Sorry about that.
