Stormageddon is here…

Temps have dropped over 30 degrees from yesterday morning, now 20 with a windchill of 11. The storm was late getting here, and we didn’t start getting sleet until around 1700 yesterday, as opposed to the 1100 estimate.

So far 1/4 inch of ice and as of 2200 last night, getting RAIN on top of sleet, even though the ‘forecast and current in blue’ was snow… sigh…

So far, power is holding, which is good. faucets are dripping (both hot and cold), and I’ll gladly pay the extra to not have frozen pipes!

Apparently some of the stores down in Dallas got ‘stoopid’ shoppers, but what can you expect the day of the storm?

I’ve laid in sandwich stuff, just to be on the safe side, and I have half a cistern of water for flushing if required (as long as it doesn’t freeze). I also have a case plus of bottled water, and I know where my percolator is for coffee.

Thankfully, plenty of blankets, including two from my youngest daughter…LOL Makes me wonder ‘what’ she knew than I didn’t…

Y’all stay safe out there, and stay warm!

  1. Your youngest daughter didn’t want you to turn into a POPsicle.

  2. Philly was 9 degrees at 0630 this morning, and we are expecting a lot of snow from early Sunday until early Monday.

Usually when we buy a new snow thrower, the purchase causes our area to be snow free for years and years.
But this time it seems to have caused the opposite effect.

  3. Hmmmm…..,I heard no mention of beer in your preps, hope that was just a posting error!

About 2 degrees and clear(@ moment)in New England.

As a paranoid prepper am pretty much set on goods/gear.

I will say if you can safely help out those that deserve help, this could be deadly for some folks!

  4. Currently 1 degree here, east Kansas, but only about an inch of snow. So far. The day is still young.

  5. Morn’n.
I can remember going to bed in Iowa Park after the sun had set on a fantastic 70+ degree fall day and waking up the next morning to teen temps and blowing snow.
Weather comes at you fast in Norte Texico.

  6. And for the record, I know our weather is drunk in your yard and you want me to come get it, but I can’t because it’s drunk in our yard too!

  7. -1 F up here, some snow yesterday, more coming. Pipes dripping, heater running, water stored. Might get sun tomorrow afternoon, maybe above freezing by Tuesday.

  8. Put the blade on the tractor yesterday and brought the cold weather hunting gear into the house. If Murphy Rules, that should minimize the effect of the storm.

It didn’t start snowing until 0700 this morning and temp was 9 degrees.

Best of luck from Southern KY

  9. Northern Wisconsin. – 21 F: actual temp, NOT windchill. Too cold to snow.

  10. All- Thanks! Ag- Phbbbttt. Yes, I know y’all have lower temps, but you KNOW how to deal with it, and have the insulation to cope. We don’t…

This was from somebody who had to go into work this morning- “At 45 MPH in WF, the traction assist light looks like a disco ball at a squirrel rave.”

    • You deal with heat in the summer that would probably kill me dead-right-there.

  11. Hit 4° last night in Northern Colorado. Nothing unusual about that.
Light dusting of snow and that is unusual. We haven’t had much winter.

The usual idiots are clogging up I-70 border to border. Snow or high winds. So glad I don’t need to drive in the mountains anymore.

  12. Ag- I ‘love’ the heat! HATE cold!!!

WSF- Supposed to be 0 here tonight. And we’re finally getting some light snow. Nobody around here is driving anywhere!

  13. East Tennessee had snow flurries early afternoon.
Now 1830 and we have rain that washed the snow away.
    Temps been dropping since sundown.
The roads are NOT going to be fun tonight.

  14. Down here in Seguin in a 75 year old uninsulated farmhouse, have the propane space heater going and added two nice grey N……… new wool blankets to the bed. Cat is intrigued by them, shut the water off to the horse and donkey troughs and will be dripping the water tonight. North wind still blowing about 15 MPH with gusts to about 25.

  15. Rat- That would be nice, IF I could get to the pipes, which I can’t… sigh

    drjim- Tryin!

    Stretch- Ouch!

Kurt- Hopefully that works, and the temps don’t get down in single digits!!!
