Well, we’ve got a skating rink…
1 1/2 inches of snow over 1/2 inch of ice. A predicted low of 4 degrees last night, and more snow predicted.
I went out yesterday afternoon to take a bag of trash out and almost went on my ass, it was that slick! I tippy toed out and back as quickly and safely as I could and didn’t bother going back out for anything!
So far, still have power and no burst lines, knock on wood! Reports yesterday were 50,000 without power between north and east Texas, and over 1 million nationwide. My heart goes out to those folks.
TX Dot is doing what they can with the main roads, but us peons out in the sticks have had nothing done. I saw one truck all day and it was sliding around. Saw two ATVs one was pulling a saucer with a little kid yelling his head off! I’m glad ‘he’ was having fun, and I hope he didn’t frostbite his nose!!!
It appears we’ve once again escaped the ‘big’ snowfall, and I, for one, am not complaining! Friends up in Amarillo shoveled more than they should have, and are going to be sore today!
Looking at the long range forecast, this crap may hang around until next Friday!!! So much for an in/out in three days… Grrrr…
Re the CF in Minneapolis, I’m doing the usual 72 hour rule…
12″ snow so far, not sure what is under it, feels like banana, don’t care to look. It is weather. Deal with it. Happened before. Could be worse.
Sincerely,
Light Infantry.
We got snow, then sleet, then more snow – about 9″ total. We haven’t seen a plow, but between us and our neighbors – at least the sidewalks are clear.
Pretty sure the CF in Minnesota has been going on for more than 72 hours. 😒
But to recap,
a female activist decides to impede law enforcement in the pursuit of their duties, puts herself in a situation where the LEO in question feels threatens, and dies.
another activist straps on his firearm, leaves all his ID at home, gets in the way of law enforcement in the pursuit of their duties, and then flashes the gun. He also dies.
thousands of activists are coordinating on social media (Signal) to provide instant response to impede federal law enforcement in the pursuit of their duties, following and harassing the agents, and generating noise to alert the targets of the enforcement
other activists are setting up no-go zones with dumpsters blocking roads and demanding ID from anyone going in and out (ironic, isn’t it?) while assaulting people they “think” are associated with ICE
other activists stormed into a church, terrifying the churchgoers (especially given the recent shooting in a Minneapolis church) and shouting down the service
Meanwhile the Governor of the state, under investigation for fraud, tells the federal government that they need to turn down the temperature, and lectures them that the proper way to conduct this operation is to cooperate with local law enforcement, ignoring the fact that he has directed local law enforcement to NOT cooperate.
Am I missing anything? The state is in rebellion, and are leaving the federal government the choices of abandoning federal law enforcement in the state (goodbye federal law enforcement in California, Oregon, Washington, Illinois, New York, …) or to invoke the insurrection act and send in the federal troops, which will most likely result in more deaths and poor optics as people, once again, start thinking about how there weren’t any riots under “President” Joe Biden. I hope PDT has some other ideas that I can’t think of because this whole situation is outrageous.
Cold fluffy snow here in southern NH but so far 27 inches of it. A little more will come tonight but no ice or freezing rain, thankfully. No classes today, and we will see if the college is ready even tomorrow.
Staying put inside is the best advice!
We barely got 3 inches, but it warmed up then refroze as ice.
My tractor could not break it up so today will be chip and shovel
Next house has to have a wood stove!
There was a murder of a Minnesota politician. The murderer claimed that he had done so at the direction of Tim Walz, but the murderer’s state of mind was so obviously questionable that a lot of people immediately decided that this testimony is unreliable.
Walz and Ellison do /not/ have a good argument for a completely non-federal investigation of such things as fraud or as their handling of ICE and surrounding situations.
I know that everyone has been seeing reasons to talk about the possibility of civil war. We’ve been looking at possible civil war for almost twenty years, and there look superficially like right now there are a lot of positives for the hypothesis of being able to address it in the courts instead.
There are a lot of points where I think the claims sound interesting, but I do not want to taint all of the possible jury pools.
We got a glaze of ice, an inch of sleet and then a 1/4 inch of ice. Much better than predicted. At present, we have power. Many north of us do not.
-5° this morning with clear skies and bright sun. Light snow last evening. For Northern Colorado, this has been the mildest winter in years.
Got mostly sleet with freezing rain here in north central NC – totaled probably a couple of inches on streets. Right now it’s just above freezing and sun is out so melting has begun.
The way locals handle slick driving, I’m staying home today and probably at least tomorrow morning since melt today will refreeze overnight. Most businesses are closed today anyway.
You mentioned Amarillo – I rolled my eyes when I saw a preview of whatever they are calling the Yellowstone prequel since the supposedly Texan female marshal pronounced Amarillo with an O at the end instead of as Amarilla.
Y’all stay safe and warm!
Glad to hear you made out okay. Ice isn’t friendly to anyone when coating the ground – your mind is spot on !
Stefan- Yep! We are.
Mrs.C- Glad to hear y’all are okay. Plowing seems to have ‘fallen off’ in a lot of major cities.
Hereso- Concur! It’s truly a CF of monumental proportions that Walz et al have brought on themselves.
Liberty- That’s good news for y’all!
Gerry- Ouch! That sucks!
Wylie- 🙂
Bob- Agreed!
Tuvela- Good news, and yes, power is good!!!
WSF- Yes, and the lack of snow IS worrisome, y’all need the snow for water this summer.
Tom- Snort…yeah, definitely NOT Texas pronouciation!
jrg- Lessons learned, I’ll leave it at that…LOL
We’ve got about 15 inches of snow and very cold temperatures here in Southwest Ohio.
Just another Michigan….
Oak Ridge had enough ice to bring down some tree limbs. It was the heavy rain that followed that cause the most damage. A 28 mile round trip Sunday afternoon showed well over a dozen downed trees, all with root balls showing. Of course, this being East Tennessee, all the trees had been cleared by Good Ol’ Boys or Gals. Cousin Jimmy had to clear a tree on his street.
Take care, buddy! We got through this without a hitch, but we’re used to it!
TOS- Stay safe!
Ed- Yep, nothing new for y’all!
Stretch- Of course…LOL
drjim- Key word YOU are used to it! 🙂
