One of our greats and a personal favorite. Looking back at his long list of films, I’m glad to see we have at least those to remember him by. Vaya Con Dios Amigo.
Yes, that one and Open Range are two of my favorites. Thought of him as an always bad buy, but he proved to be a much more capable actor than that.
An old Duvall movie you don’t hear much about is THE GREAT SANTINI. Others were SECOND HAND LIONS – LETS GET HARRY – FALLING DOWN – a very long list of great roles.
I found Duvall good in various roles playing a wide range of characters. I liked that he did not spend time on the podium telling us how to think like most in Hollywood. He actually lived in a horse ranch in western Loudoun County, VA Middleburg, VA.
Me and my family was moved by my business in 96 to Northern Virginia and we lived in Leesburg, VA, which is the county seat of Loudoun County. My wife went to horse riding classes and training out in that area and learned the folk that had horses and ranches. We left in 2005 after our sons finished HS in 04 and 05 and business moved us south.
Second hand lions was a great movie
X 2
Love that movie, rewatch it once every couple of years.
My favorite of his movies. RIP Robert
I just saw him last night in the last movie he did.
The Pale Blue Eye.
I did not realize he was in it until the credits.
Open Range, Broken Trail, Get Low, Secondhand Lions, The Apostle, Tender Mercies, Seven Days in Utopia, M*A*S*H, I can’t stop!!!!!.
A post at Larry Lambert’s about the Assassination Game reminded me of Assassination Tango.
“I love the smell of napalm in the morning”
All- Thanks, and I think everyone has their own ‘favorites’…
Don’t forget THX-1138.
Cranston- Actually, I did… my bad.
One of my favorite actors.
Godspeed, Mr. Duvall….
The very scene that ruined the movie for me.
Does not matter if it is not true? Really?
Loved “Secondhand Lions”. Duvall and Michael Caine together was great. I wonder how much of the dialog was ad libbed.
That very piece of advice is framed and hangs in my hobby room. When asked about it by my granddaughter who’s 7 years old I said there’s a movie we need to watch. After watching the movie she turned me and said Grandpa that’s a good movie and I like what he said. I wish I had written Robert Duvall and told him about what a seven year felt about his his work.
Long been a fan of his work but Secondhand Lions really resonated. Rest in Peace Sir and thank you for the stories.
Late to the party, but I loved him in “True Confessions”.
