For versions of this???
Afghanistan and Pakistan exchanged significant cross-border fire Thursday in an escalation of hostilities along their shared border, according to multiple reports.
The clashes came after the Taliban said it launched retaliatory strikes on Pakistani military positions, while Islamabad said it was responding to unprovoked fire in the area.
Reuters reported that both forces clashed for more than two hours along their roughly 2,600-kilometer (1,615-mile) border, threatening a ceasefire that had been agreed to in 2025 after fighting.

Something tells me the ISI has lost control of the Taliban…
It has long been known/surmised (depending on whom you listen to) that the ISI is really responsible for the formation and success of the Taliban in Afghanistan going back to the late 90s early 2000s, HERE. This is in addition to the ISI’s involvement in various Paki operations against India over the years.
The problem is the egos/tribes/mujahedin involved in Afghanistan don’t like being ‘controlled’ by anybody, and once the egos get involved, all bets are off.
The real question is what is going to happen next, and how far the Pakis will go in retaliation. Will the Afghanis glow in the future? I don’t know…
One of the ‘interesting’ things in the pictures in the article is the amount of American equipment the Taliban have now- Hummers, M-4s, M-16s, etc.
Hey Old NFO,
And on this one….I ain’t rooting for either side…The Pakistani’s were lukewarm allies at best, no matter what those clowns at foggy bottom said, and of course the taliban…I can see the taliban sending “believers” across the borders to cause trouble just because they can.
Timing is interesting, a standoff in Iran and now they news is abuzz about the Paki’s.
Well, if it gets us out of the Iran thing without a Scillian Expedition I’m all for it.
I’m pretty sure some folks here remember the history of Athens and their ill-fated expedition.
I think Mick Dundee summed it up nicely “I knew you were tribal.”
It’s like the fighting along the eastern front in WWII. They’re all “bad guys”.
A pox upon both their houses.
“You can never buy the loyalty of an Afghan, but you can always rent it” Frederick Forsyth
The ISI created the Taliban to help get the Pashtun OUT of the NWFP and into Afghanistan. The fled into Pakistan when the Russians invaded, and set up shop (not unlike Somalis in Minnesota). Now Pakistan has lost patience with its creatures. More popcorn, please – add salt and butter.
If you read the part of the late Lt.Col John Masters DSO, OBE’s memoirs in which he describes his service with the 4th Gurkhas on the Afghan frontier in the 1930s, you see a lot of the same Pashtun family names as you see today, still at the heart of the trouble.
The same holds for Col. Robert Warburton’s Eighteen Years In The Khyber, 1879-1898. The last chapter of that book should be required reading by everyone at the Army War College and Foggy Bottom. OK, someone could read it to the State people.
As Henry Kissinger once said of Iran VS Iraq, “Can’t they both lose?” Not my Favorite Secretary of State, but wise from time to time.
Saw on the Shawn Ryan show we are still sending the Taliban $81 million a month. Why?
Maybe because somebody in our government is skimming it?
Let them fight…and kill each other. Which is what muzzies do if there are no kefir around to slaughter. Nobody in the west should lose a moments sleep over this. Every islamist who dies in this fight is one fewer we need worry about becoming a terrorist here.
All- Interesting points, and yes, more popcorn!!!
BTW, shouldn’t that be “Green on Green?” 😉
Stretch- Eh…maybe???
