South Texas is getting whacked, along with New Mexico and Arizona with monsoon rains over there. The hurricane in the Pacific is close to hitting the Mexican landmass, curving toward Mexico City, and will be bringing more moisture to south Texas in the next couple of days.
If it makes it into the Gulf, areas in south Texas could get between 6 and 10 inches of rain in less than 24 hours!
Edit- I was wrong, some folks have already gotten over 6 inches of rain down south! Prayers we don’t get a repeat of a couple of years ago!
Up here, we get to watch the cute puffy little cumulus build into cumulonimbus as they move off to the East. So no rain for us…
Sigh…
But at least it’s a little cooler this week, only in the 90s!
Ahh Texas , as a kid by this time in the summer my barefeet callouses would be tough enough to walk on gravel with no ill effects , and likely have a thin coating of road tar for added protection . I also would have survived a couple of ear infections from swimming in creeks , painful , but treatable . Love to Texas , and all things Texan !!
We live in the RGV (further south than Hill Country – Reynosa on that map above) and weather people are telling us we are going to miss out on any extreme rain events. I saw some rain totals over a foot – I don’t mind missing out on that ! I hope the people who need the rain get it – been a tough drought down here.
You aren’t too far from me! (Harlingen). We seem to have gotten enough rain to keep the farmers relatively happy these past few months.
Harlingen was where I went to TSTI before it became TSTC. I’m actually typing this in McAllen, down west of you a bit.
I still call it TSTI.
Even up here in the Midwest, it’s been pretty brutal with a combination of heat and humidity that’s driven nearly all my friends indoors. Close to 100 yesterday and today is expected to be hotter.
We had a line of showers yesterday that dropped 3 1/2 inches of rain in a little over an hour. After that, it was some light showers off and on. All together, we’ve had about 5 inches of rain in the last week. The forecast is for a 50% chance today, and the radar shows that might happen in the next 2 hours.
One thing I noticed was how the Medina river is filling, which will fill Medina Lake. Whether it does enough is to be seen, but like Lake Corpus Christi, the demand for the water exceeds the supply, and the increase in population is only making things worse.
I lived for a year in Laredo, and we got a couple of rains that were just brutal. It is not a well-drained town, and I can remember both pipes bubbling underwater while I sat at a stoplight on a Yamaha 1100 Maxim.
And brain dead morons keep driving into flooded washes, having to be rescued. I say let them sit on top of their vehicles and ponder their stupidity.
I live 5.25 miles as the crow flies from the Bandera County Court House down here in the Texas Hill Country. Monday night into Tuesday morning we received around 7″ of rain. One rain gauge was completely full (5″ measured) and the other gauge (6″ meausred) was up into the catch-cup but not completely full. Today we have already received more than 2″ of rain. Yesterday, Tuesday, my daughter sent us a picture of the Medina River at Schmidtke Road on the west side of Bandera that she took on the way home; it was nearly up to the bottom of the low bridge there.
We need the rain but…
I was in Kerrville Tuesday night and the Guadalupe River was up but not flooding. This rain has been more spread out over time.
Good luck! The Greater Cincinnati area is almost as hot, and fairly humid. My wife and I were planning to go to a free outdoor concert by a local rockabilly act tonight, but the forecast temps are making me cautious
The monsoons can’t get to Colorado soon enough. Wildfires everywhere.

Canada’s now sending the gift of smoke, which in enough quantity will block some of the sun and drop the heat level considerably. I know it was a LOT cooler here today, and the entire day was at “dusk” levels of sunlight.
Down here at Rancho Snakebit in Seguin, the weather has it so close that the rain couldn’t go around us this time.
That being said, although it’s been raining and thundering (the cat found herself a cave to hide in) the military alarm clock holding the top gate closed shows less than 1/2″ since Sunday.

Got about 7” yesterday. I say “about”, because our gauge holds six inches and the rain continued for a while. I checked it with binoculars and saw the 6 level, but didn’t want to venture out and get drenched.
LL- I grew up in Louisiana, I’m used to it. Don’t LIKE it, but used to it…
