The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced Thursday that Los Angeles County agreed to issue concealed carry permits in accordance with a landmark Supreme Court decision.
The DOJ’s Civil Rights Division sued the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) and Sheriff Robert Luna in September 2025, in the United States District Court for the Central District of California, alleging the department displayed a “pattern or practice” of infringing Second Amendment rights through unreasonable delays in processing concealed carry weapon (CCW) permit applications. Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon praised the department for addressing the issues and complying with the Supreme Court’s June 2022 ruling in New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen in a Thursday release announcing the settlement.

I know when I was out there in the late 90s, I was a peon. I was told to not even bother, unless I wanted to join the ‘reserves’ or had a bunch of $$$ to ‘donate’ to a campaign…
And since I didn’t want to do either of those…
The good part of this is that a lot of women ‘should’ now be able to get permits that were blocked before. 9 or 10 months, and up to $1000 to ‘pay’ for everything was BS, and everybody knew it. I knew a few ladies back in the day who figured better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6, and were willing to act. Just sayin…
Granted, there were areas of LA that we did not go into on purpose, and places where you didn’t get off the freeway even if you had a flat! But we knew where they were, and a lot of us were just starting to carry cell phones (Motorola Star Tac for me).
I’m just sorry it’s taken this long for them to finally do the right thing!
No apparent change here in the Silicon Valley area. Same old bull. Lots of time, money, psych, testing, etc…
The DOJ has lead the horse to water. It remains to be seen if the horse will drink until bureaucrats start facing jail time.
Will- Sorry to hear that, and understand. When I was stationed at Moffett, I didn’t even bother to try, even though I had a carry permit from Florida.

Had a Utah carry permit in the 00’s. Read in my local fishwrap that there were ~8000 Utah permits just for my local county here in CA. NOTHING out of state ever honored here. 30+ states honored that permit, but, really soon, that dropped to about 3 states. Should have gone the FL route, that one remained okay, I was told.
Did that through my gun school membership. Since gone bust…sigh
I wonder how fast those permits will go out the door? I’m a cynic.
Your comment about knowing where not to go and not to stop reminded me of some of my first trips from Long Island to up state N.Y. A couple times on the Cross Broncs (sp) express way we saw people throwing tires they took off broken down cars over the fence in broad daylight! This was in the late 1960’s, I live in Alaska now!
