Back in battery…

Kinda, sorta…

It’s bad when you come back off vacation so you can rest…LOL

Anyhoo, got to spend time with friends up in Big Sky country!

We ate too much, chatted a lot, and mainly caught up on everyone’s lives. We’re all getting older… sigh…

What is even worse, the AR-15 now classifies as a curio and relic weapon! The patent and trademarks were sold to Colt in 1959! And Colt first manufactured the rifle in 1964 for civilian use.

To qualify as a curio or relic, a firearm must be 50 Years or Older: Manufactured at least 50 years prior to the current date (excluding modern replicas). (As of 2026, this includes firearms manufactured in or before 1976.) So if you have a Colt AR-15 SP1, it’s legally a curio and relic… sigh…

FWIW, the AR designation is for Armalite Rifle (e.g. Eugene Stoner’s original design), NOT automatic rifle or assault rifle. Not that anybody on the left cares…

I’m digging through all the emails and other stuff I’ve been ignoring for the last four days, so I’ll try to get a real post up tomorrow!

  1. And of course, the B-52 is still flying into the future. Getting old is not the curse at once was

    • I was working on D Model Buffs in 1964 and carrying an M-16 in 1966. I classify myself as C&R. Not tooooo sure about that curse thing. 🙂

  2. “Curio or relic”. Sir, I’ll have you know that I highly resemble that statement. Even so, doesn’t mean they’re out of range.

There was a time when I told war stories. Now, I teach history.

  3. Ed- The ‘next’ mod to the BUFFs will be plasma engines…sigh

    Steve- True!

    RHT- LOL, point!

RHT- Good video. Just because the laws are not being enforced, doesn’t mean they are no longer on the books… dammit…

  4. Hey Old NFO,

Wonder if the ATF would “Let” us buy M16’s under a C&R license rather than a Class III? Yeah I thought so, LOL

  5. FWIW, there are Class III weapons on the C&R list.
    I’ve had a Class 03 (that’s the C&R) FFL for years now.

  6. During Dad’s first tour in ‘Nam (7/65-7/66) I saw a Colt AR-15 SP1 at Sears (yes, Sears!). I asked Grandma if I could “get a gun like Dad uses over there?” for my birthday. Alas, she asked Mom if it was OK.
Yeah, that didn’t go over well. To think I would have a “collectable” in my safe if Grandma had just been a tad more discreet.
