Congressional Reform Act of 2010…

The proposal is to promote a “Congressional Reform Act of 2010.” It would contain eight provisions, all of which would probably be strongly endorsed by those who drafted the Constitution and the Bill of Rights (but not the incumbants).

I know many of you will say, “this is impossible.” Let me remind you, Congress has the lowest approval of any entity in Government, now is the time when Americans will join together to reform Congress – the entity that represents us.

We need to get a Senator to introduce this bill in the US Senate and a Representative to introduce a similar bill in the US House. These people will become American heroes.. Please add any ideas on how to get this done.

Congressional Reform Act of 2010

1. Term Limits: 12 years only, one of the possible options below.

A. Two Six-year Senate terms
B. Six Two-year House terms
C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

2. No Tenure / No Pension:
A congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

3. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security:
All funds in the Congressional retirement fund moves to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, Congress participates with the American people.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, server your term(s), then go home and back to work.

4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan just as all Americans..

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career.. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

7. Congress must equally abide in all laws they impose on the American people..

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

8. All contracts with past and present congressmen are void effective 1/1/11.

The American people did not make this contract with congressmen, congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, serve your term(s), then go home and back to work.

It is time WE the people took back our system of governence… Spread the message, and vote ALL of them out in 2010 and 2012 and we can start over…

Oh yeah, Happy New Year!!!

  1. YES! ESPECIALLY number 7:

“7. Congress must equally abide in all laws they impose on the American people.”

So. What’s it take to clean up the language and have the electorate FORCE it into Congress?

I would be ALL for that. And a few more tidbits. . .

    Such as:

    1. TRUTH IN BILLS:
Each bill would contain the elements of a single issue. NO RIDERS!

    2. TRUTH IN FUNDING:
Any monies earmarked to fund specific programs or bills MUST go to those programs or bills ONLY, and monies shall NEVER be siphoned from those programs or bills to be placed into other accounts or areas.

    3. TRUTH IN EFFICACY:
Each and every bill shall have a SUNSET CLAUSE so that, at the conclusion of a period of time, its efficacy can be evaluated with the option of continuing the program or act, or allowing it to expire.

    4. TRUTH IN BUDGET:
Each subsequently budget year, until the national debt is resolved, the budget must be CUT by a minimum of 7%.

    And that’s just for a start. . .

  2. Absolutely made my day. Thanks. All those running in 2010 need to take the pledge and agree to abide by these reforms. No pledge… no support. NONE!

  3. I can get behind this. After all, being in Congress is a part-time job. Other than salary and travel expenses (coach only or equivalent), there should be no perks at all.

Want an office, get a few of your fellow congressmen together and jointly rent one. Staff? OK. But the FedGov won’t pay them. You’ll have to pay them out of your own pocket. Ditto for health benefits. You’re a part-timer. Pay up, don’t expert the taxpayer to cover you. Corruption and bribe-taking should be a capital offense.

    Yeah, I like that.

  4. I think, several years ago, that I saw something similar to #7 proposed as the ZERO Amendment.

But all the rest are equally needed.
Maybe, in order to get things started, we need to have a “windows war” (and I ain’t talking microsoft).

  5. If we don’t do a lot of replacing,we’re gonna be in a hellava fix, forget that,we’re already in a hellava fix. Happy New Year,NFO.

  6. I absolutely concur with all of it including the ones added in the comments! These guys ALL have to go! Especially one of the ones from my state, name of whitehouse! What a jerk he turned out to be.

wv: sacki, what we need to do to all of them!

  7. Well said, sir! We WILL restructure Congress .. either by Congressional Act or by an Article V convention demanded by the states.

Happy New Year … thanks for your friendship and the gift of your blog posts.

  8. I would allow a 401K contribution matched to a max of 5%.

All in all what is needed and what will never happen.

Happy New Year and good ridence to the old one,

    Gerry

  9. Excellent idea, except that it has no chance of passage. Not a snowball’s chance.

Come the revolution, we need to take Congress out of the loop during the amendment process. No sitting politician will vote to limit him/herself out of a job.

  10. I like to see a repeal of the 17th Amendment, so that Senators will answer back to their state assemblies. This would do wonders to bolster state powers, and put a leash on the senate.

Other than that, I like it and would support it fully.

  11. we need to take Congress out of the loop during the amendment process. No sitting politician will vote to limit him/herself out of a job.

  12. we need to take Congress out of the loop during the amendment process. No sitting politician will vote to limit him/herself out of a job. Its all about chasing shadows.
By that I mean latching on to this or that latest,
most innovative idea that some self styled money making
guru has put out in the hope it’ll go viral and make them
a lot of money off the backs of all the headless chickens
who will follow them blindly down a blind alley. Its a shame
but a truism nonetheless that people will follow where someone
they see as an expert leads. Even if they lead them to certain
disaster, which is what most of the gurus tend to do to their flocks.
The trick is to recognize a shadow when you see it!
