Budget Rant…

Our nation is going to have to make some tough decisions or we, as a nation, will be doomed…

We’re going to have to cut the so-called entitlement programs – there are far too many people drawing social security, medicare, and medicaid who never paid into the programs. There are also far too many payments going out of those programs for things never meant to be covered or paid for by them. Far too many illegals are drawing social security, medicare, and medicaid –

I say unless an individual is a LEGAL U.S. Citizen who has paid into the programs and has reached LEGAL retirement age, no payout!! Oh, and as for LEGAL U.S. Citizen, that individual must also have lived LEGALLY in the U.S. for a minimum of 10 years before receiving so much as a dime from those AMERICAN programs.

Unemployment payments- SIX months max… There ARE jobs out there, people just don’t want to really look until the know the payments are being cut off…

Agricultural payments – Unless the individual is a real farmer or rancher, no payments. No payments to corporations, corporate farms, corporate land holdings, hobby farmers, lawyer farmers, big business farmers, etc. Agricultural support payments go ONLY to real farmers.

Military spending – you want to cut it in half???

Institute a draft, withdraw all troops from Korea, Japan, Germany, England, the rest of Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, etc.

Get rid of a whole host of departments and agencies, starting with Dept of Energy, Dept of Education, TSA, DHS, and go on from there. We could eliminate half of the departments and agencies in this country, and not notice a thing other than the country would run more efficiently!

Cut ALL foreign aid…

Cut the staffs of the executive, judicial, and legislative branches of government by half, reduce the pay of the other half by 50%. Reduce the pay of congress, the president, vp, cabinet, etc by 50%. People would think twice about making it a career… And institute term limits…

Impose a tariff on all imported goods and services (overseas based help calls). Americans need jobs too, and a good place to start is by building factories that make socks in the United States and not India, China, Bangladesh or wherever…

Stop all withholding taxes. Instead, send every individual a 10% tax bill twice per year for their taxes. Withholding just hides the amount of taxes honest working people have to pay. If they had to write a $12,000 check every six months made payable to Uncle Sam and their chosen bums they’d think twice about how much money the government spends and wastes.

I bring the last item up at work periodically and every one I mention it to argues “Oh, but wait, I can’t afford to write a check for that amount and give it to the government. I don’t have that kind of money!”

To which I respond, what do you think you are doing now, have you ever taken a close look at your pay stub and see how much is being deducted and given to the government.

Their response? You guessed it – “But that’s different, this way I get a refund every year.”

Too many people in our country are critically stupid… Sigh…

Rant over, kicking the soapbox back in the corner…

  1. Great post. I hope the people who can do something about these problems will do it.

  2. The quickest way to start a major change in our government would be to stop witholding. Instead, each person gets a coupon with his/her check to accompany the check for that particular tax when they send it in to the appropriate governmental taxing agency.

The revolution would start about 2 paychecks after that.

  3. The revolution wouldn’t begin until the cable TV and internet got shut off. 50% of the population doesn’t pay withholding taxes, so they wouldn’t notice.

    NFO – Preach it Brother!

  4. Great post. Unfortunately, common sense isn’t a hot commodity.

Recently read that if all of us were taxed 100% of our income, there would still be a deficit.

  5. Linda, I hope what you hope comes to pass, but don’t bet the rent on it.

Old NFO, don’t kick the soapbox into the corner. Get back on it and stay on it, and get everyone you can to join you. The only way we’re going to fix this mess is if We The People rear up on our hind legs and roar.

The 2010 elections were a start, but IMO we’ll have to ‘lather-rinse-repeat’ several times until those fools in D.C. from both parties finally get the message.

  6. Linda- I do too, but I’m not counting on it… sigh…

Mr B- THAT is a great idea 🙂

    DB- You’re right…

WSF- That’s what I’m afraid of!

CenTex- Yeah, we’re going to have another couple of ‘rodeos’ before we REALLY get their attention!

  7. when I was in High School, I drove a clunker. My buddy had a new car. One day he told me he had paid for it, not his folks. He got the money from SSI benefits from the death of his father. His mom had re-married well, big, house on Lake Erie, etc. Told this to my kid, and it turns out someone who works for him gets the same deal. What is this?

  8. I’m with you all the way, except on the unemployment thing. Right now in the county where I live, there are two job listings. FIVE factories have closed the doors. Figuring 150 jobs per factory, that’s 750 out of work & with 2 jobs available in the county, leaving 748 looking for work.

Driving a couple of hours for minimum wage jobs is really unrealistic.

A good portion of those 748 are late-middle aged folks without much (if any) education that amounts to anything. Go looking for work at 60…see how many folks are willing to hire you, especially without formal education.

The husband was lucky- he was able to find a job in 6 months when the company he worked for closed down…

I was lucky- I was hired ONE day before the company I’m working for put a freeze on hiring, as many places within 50 miles of here have done…and that’s WITH having letters after my name.

Give business owners a reason to hire folks and you’ll see unemployment go down.

Most folks I know would much rather be drawing a wage check than a piddly unemployment check. Those unemployment checks are rarely enough to pay the bills.

  9. Ed- I don’t have a clue, and never heard of that either…

Snigs- Granted your situation is a bit different, but there was a study sent around that 70 plus percent of those on unemployment wait until three months before it runs out to actually LOOK for a job…

    Paw- Thanks 🙂

  10. I was laid off last March. I had a new job within a week. Maybe I was ‘lucky,’ but I also dreaded the idea of having to collect unemployment. It was a hell of a motivator.

Oh, and my new job paid more and came with great benefits. So there you go.

  11. Aren’t these “tax cuts” that are being hassled out, The very same Bush era “cuts” that are merely being extended? How the hell is that going to “cost” another $900B dollars? It is just going to be $900B the Elephants and Asses can’t rip out of our pockets to piss away on Nascar, and life cycles of fleas! Please correct me if I’m wrong!

  12. Oh Yeah, original comment was gong to be,” I’mall in with ALL your proposals!!!!!

wv: strop, what all those rectum orifii in DC need!!

  13. Okay, you have my vote. OldNFO for President, 2012.

Might not be any less traveling, but I hear that the ride is First Class.

  14. Robert- Good point.

    Ev- They are.

    Newb- We’d be in coach… sigh…

    Fuzzy- I don’t want it.

  15. Protectionist tariffs have never worked in the USA, beginning with their first application during Jefferson’s term. The US has always been a “global economy”. Along with socialistic laws, our biggest financial problem is that we have become a service economy rather than a manufacturing one as the population ages.

  16. Either move income tax day to the week before the elections, or move the elections to the week after income tax day.

You don’t think that they are about six months apart by accident, do you?

Can I be your VP candidate? I have better jokes and more of a clue than Joe Biden. Then again, who doesn’t?

  17. What people need to realize is that refund they get every year is merely the Government paying off what is essentially an interest free loan that you make to them with each paycheck.

  18. Poppa J- You are correct sir, and I REALLY don’t understand why people don’t get it… sigh…

    Jim- THanks!
