Trigger time!!!

Met up with Navy One at a ‘reasonable’ hour, drug him out to my range and ran him through a selection of shooty things… πŸ™‚

Since he’d been complaining about not getting to shoot any ‘good’ guns, I dug a few out, the match Ruger MKII, the Python, and a couple of 1911s.

.22, .38, .357, .45 in the pistols, and a couple of other folks let him shoot various things too. All I can say is ‘kid in a candy store πŸ™‚

Drug him over to the rifle range, and did it all over again, .22 (39A), 5.56 (M4gery), .308 (SCAR). Β  Some of the results are presented below!

This a one of those reduced size 25 foot targets pushed out to 100 yards. Β I shot a couple of head shots with the M4gery, then gave it to N1, and once he figured out where to ‘look’ after he got used to my sight picture, he tore it up (understanding that he’d never shot an M4 until today). Β I did plink a couple of .308 rounds into the target, and the barely touching shot on top of the head is mine (forgot I was sighted 2 in high), adjusted down and put one through the right eye, and called it quits…

As N1 said, we ‘took care’ of that target! Β And he was smiling ear to ear πŸ™‚ Β

Ironically, as we were cleaning up two more folks showed up, and it turns out I know one of them from JAPAN no less… sigh…

Good times, good conversation, and thanks for lunch N1!

I’m gonna enjoy the rest of the day, and clean tomorrow. N1 is a good guy, and he ‘may’ end up back in this area, if so, we’ve got an add to the blog shoots!

  1. Sounds like you guys had a blast! Excellent. Range time is good for what ails ya ( well, mentally anyway… Not usually good for headaches. )

  2. Oh, man – when you say you’ve dug out the “good” guns, the rest of us are doomed to ear-to-ear grins for the meeting and months of wistfulness interspersed with “Oh, you shoulda been there…”

Glad you two had a great time!

  3. Glad you had a good day!!

Question though- what are you shooting in the Mark II? I had a box of Remingtons and they were so damned unreliable. First shot, bang; second shot, ping; third shot, meow; fourth shot, click; wash, rinse, repeat.

Bought a box of Winchesters…they’re jamming about every 6th shot! Grrrr.

A friend told me it was “crappy ammo”. When did Remington & Winchester go south?

  5. Aw Old NFO, you are a gentlemen and a blogger. I was trying to remember all the big iron we shot. You beat me to it! Thanks again. I had a blast, figuratively and literally. . .

  6. Great story.

I’ll be getting a few days off when we get back, and I’m looking forward to going out to the rifle range with my son again.

  7. Took a granddaughter[15] to the club for her first time this morning.
Started at the rifle range with a tricked 10-22 and thats when the smile was impanted.
Went to a 7mm sporterised Mauser, smile got bigger.
Moved to the pistol range and we went through the ‘Rules’, some dry fire, then started with a MK3. Kicked it up to 9mm, smile got bigger.
686 w/.38 spl and she wants a gun.
She asked if she could shoot my carry Kimber govt. and I showed her the grip Kevin taught me and we went through 100 rounds of 230gr before she would quit.
Her sister[20] text me asking for a range date and advise on getting her CCW.
    Fairly nice day.

  8. I’m not bad with a .45. But I’m hell on wheels with a .45 caliber pencil…

  9. Keads- It was!

MC- Yep, once I got Navy One to stop trying to shoot the ears off πŸ™‚

WSF- Um… yeah, one or two πŸ™‚

Wing- You’ve shot em, so you know how big his grin was!

45- Me too, especially when I’m at the range!

Snigs- Federal or Aquila seem to be the only two ‘reliable’ .22 rounds that are reasonably priced. I do have some Eley, but that stuff is damn near worth it’s weight in gold! CCI apparently has some decent .22 ammo also.

Pax- Welcome Sir! I do get down to your neck of the woods on occasion!

    Navy- Glad of it!

drjim- Do it, it’s WELL worth the time!

Skip- That’s GREAT! The more women shooters we have, the more scared the bad guys get!

LL- Somehow I think you protest a bit much πŸ™‚

Brigid- My thoughts are with you. Not easy work, but necessary. Hang in there Lady.

  10. Fuzzy- It was, and I ran the plates clean with both the 1911 and the Python πŸ™‚ ANY time I do that, I’m happy!!!

  11. Honest to God, I think the best way to have the anti-gun crowd get over itself would be to drag those people over to the range, put a good gun in their hand, and let them have some fun. It sounds like y’all had a spectacular day.

  12. Dragging an anti to the range is almost as good as dragging a kid to the range. In either case you get to see the light come on in their eyes. It just shines brighter in the eyes of a kid. A good day shooting beats a good day doing most anything else. Not a thing wrong with shooting with fellow gunnies though.
