All Good Things…

Must come to an end… dammit…

The range is closed, the fire is out, and we are dispersing to our respective homes…

Not trying to rub it in, but it’s truly been a relaxing and refreshing weekend; and the first liar…er…storyteller never had a chance!!!

The reach out and touch table-

Front to rear- M-1 Garand, M-24, M-4, SCAR 17, two more M-1s and last but not least, Barrett M-82.

And the results???

The REALLY big holes are .50 BMG, the rest are a variety including Tam 20 for 20 on the SCAR, and some damn good pistol work from a variety of folks…

Best shots (to my mind), Vine down on the SCAR, me down on the M-24, AepilotJim spotting- heart shot on the 500 yard target by Vine, hostage taker head shot by me, called, and both hits almost simultaneously… And AepilotJim (mumbling) Assholes! Β πŸ™‚

Farmgirl and Phlegmmy tag teaming a prairie dog at about 100 yards with .22s πŸ™‚

My bet with Lawdog at 365 yards over a coffee cup sitting on top of the car… Lawdog you OWE me! Β πŸ™‚

And this head hanging in the hotel lobby had me chuckling all weekend, and bringing back memories of my Uncle and his ranch with Longhorns…

The letter posted below had this statement in it:

“He was a landmark on the ranch until his disposition made it more desirable that he hang from a wall…”

My Uncle had one that got turned into the guest of honor at a BBQ after he did his damnest to grind ME into hamburger…

Thanks again to the Farm Fam for the fantastic hosting, and all who pitched in to make the weekend a success; especially the NerdsΒ for the beer,Β and Jenn et al for the Lumpia!

EOR…

  1. It sure does sound like fun. Although there’s no doubt at all that I wouldn’t have put any lead on target at 500 yards.

  2. Glad y’all had a good time. Impressive shooting.

Just curious – what’s it like to shoot the Barrett? Much recoil?

  3. Good stuff.

Reminds me that I need to spend more time at the 1000-yard range we’ve got down by Stephenville.

‘Course, I can’t hardly see beyond a thousand FEET anymore, let alone a thousand yards. . .

But it’s the fun and fellowship factors that really count.

  4. what is the would stick in the hod of the car? Did somebody nail it with a spear?

  5. It was a grand time, as ever, and was over much too soon, as always. It was wonderful to see you. Godspeed until we see you again, and lots and lots of hugs are sent your way.

  6. Well, Vine has those damned eyes.

But who was it, shooting the flashlight off the hood, in a 30mph crosswind, with a .308 at 375 yards?

Gentle readers, it was our own NFO.

  7. drjim- We did!

BP- You would have with the ‘right’ gun, trust me πŸ™‚

Julie- Well, ‘luck’ does come into it…LOL

CTT- Thanks, the recoil on a Barrett is about like a 12 ga shotgun with slugs. But you DON’T want to be standing off to the side of the gun…LOL

AOA- Thanks and you’re right, it IS the friends and fellowship!

Andy- That was a piece of exhaust pipe to hold the coffee can… πŸ™‚

Phlegmmy- Thank you and same to you all!

    Matt- Luck… πŸ™‚

  8. BZ- It was!!!

WSF- ONLY because we tired of trying to ‘blow’ the shots in… 20+kt cross winds with light ammo is just ‘such’ fun… And we ran out of light πŸ™‚

  9. Sounds like a great time. Probably didn’t have as good a time at Gunsite…but it was a learning experience.
