NRA Convention, Day 3…

Quick hits from the morning ‘stroll’ through the floor… Talking with the folks at Shaw Barrels, they indicated they are 3-4 months behind on barrels, 4-5 months behind on rebarreling customer rifles, and 14 months behind on their MK-7 rifles! The issue is maintaining quality, and their comment was that customers are very understanding. THAT is the right way to do business…

For Midwest Chick, and Everett, I got the things covered you asked for… MsgtB, that pic you wanted will go up tonight!

Saw a 70’ish lady, by her self, looking at Glock 26s. She ‘knew’ what she was doing, and the rep walked over and asked if there was anything he could help her with. Her answer, “Oh, I’m just looking at the Gen 4 to see if I want to upgrade…” 🙂

Chatted with Josh Kinser with Miliary Warriors Support Foundation, they are doing good things for not only wounded warriors, but the children of warriors who have died in combat. Their link MilitaryWarriors.org Josh is the field activities director, and does the hunts in South Texas.

The worst ‘customer’ service, or I should say lack of, was El Paso Saddlery… They were more interested in talking to each other about how good they’d done at the Casino last night than they were talking to customers… I watched three people walk up, get ignored (just like I was being ignored), at that point, I walked off… And No I’m NOT linking to their site… Go to the Holster site.com or Dragon Leatherworks, THEY know what customer service is!

Along with that, yet another trip by HS Precision, and not a soul there (as usual), other than the two booth guys. Same as last year!

FNH, good news/bad news for SCAR 17 folks… More magazines are on the way, BUT… They are currently filling another order for 10000 units (which means 100,000 magazines). Sigh… Best guess is 6 months until SCAR 17 mags are readily available…

One hears about ‘rock stars’ in various formats, in the gun world there are a few also Ted Nugent (real rock star), Ronnie Barrett (icon), R. Lee Ermey (movie/TV star), and I’d add one more ‘rock star’ Frank Brownell. In three days of observation, I’ve watched literally hundreds of folks walk up and wait in line to just speak to him. And it’s obvious that Frank truly enjoys meeting his customers and actually knows a lot of them. Talking with Larry Weeks, he said that Frank routinely comes in around 0730, and usually doesn’t leave before 1700-1800. He spends most of the day on the phone and email with customers/friends… I spoke with him a few minutes, and he stressed his company philosphy is still based on getting the right parts to the right people in shortest time with minimal cost. He also brought 150 employees over via bus to give them a chance to see the NRA convention. More later…
