Vacation my butt…

So… stopped by to help out youngest daughter while she has hip surgery, and lo and behold, I find out I’m helping build a deck on the back of the house…

So we let the young folks dig… 🙂

And bend and fight with the pilings…

While Vito played king of the mountain on the dirt pile…

And the first two days work is complete, and Vito is surveying his new kingdom…

And he got a bath, no choice in the matter… Damn dog was RED with dirt from one end to the other!!!

And he’s back to his favorite sport, slobber all over me, and drop the ball in my lap to throw… Sigh…
And that whole ‘fetch’ thing needs work… Threw the ball and Vito brings back a 5 foot section of cedar post (weighed about 15 lbs)!!!

Posting/commenting will be light for the next couple of days while I help out up here… Go read the folks on my sidebar, good stuff there!

  1. Love that picture of Vito with the pole in his mouth!
My dog’s left stuff like that all over my yard and I found it hard to believe he could do it.

  2. Thanks all, that pole, two chunks of logs and he’s yet to bring back the tennis ball… Sigh

  3. Oh how we miss Eva, our rescue Rottweiler. . .

Her and Vito could be littermates given their build, coat composition, tail-docking and head structure.

Their are actually two “versions” of Rottweilers–the herding type (smaller, a bit more slender, longer snout, narrower head, three-beat gait) and the drover or “butcher dog” version (broader, more muscular, shorter snouth/broder head).

I’m a huge fan of the herding variety, not so much of the drover variety. Temperaments differ accordingly as well.

Spent a lot of time with the USAF K-9 guys in Germany and got a PhD equivalent in K9 handling and breed traits/characteristics from those old Germans. Nobody better in the world with a working dog than a Kraut who knows what he’s doing–although the Dutch and the French come in a very strong second.

    Oh, deck looks good too.

    Almost forgot.

  4. Thanks all, that pole, two chunks of logs and he’s yet to bring back the tennis ball…

If you wanted it back, why’d you throw it away in the first place??!?

  5. Nice little dog you got there.

I love rotties, they make some of the best dogs. Once they decide you are Alpha nothing will change that, and are some of the best friends i had when i was growing up. Grew up with 4 or 5 different rotties, we sort of ran a rescue for them.

  6. Wing- So far he’s leading… 2 falls out of 3 :-0

    45er- Yeah… But it’s HELL to throw…

    Matt- That they do!

    Skip- Close- Clear Lake

AOA- Thanks, I wasn’t aware of that significant difference!

    Carteach- Kinda sorta 🙂

Julie- Might as well be productive 😀

    Zer- Shaddap 🙂

    PH- gotta do something…

Laura- Yeah, but DAMN he slobbers…

Tim- True, but ya gotta hydrate!

    Brad- Thanks

    DB- Yep… sigh…

  7. Looks like paradise for a dog! Rolling in dirt, logs to chew on, bath time, slobber on people. . .
