Enough to make you wonder…

This is an editorial that was printed in the Washington Times on 7 August…

The Civil War of 2016

Imagine Tea Party extremists seizing control of a South Carolina town and the Army being sent in to crush the rebellion. This farcical vision is now part of the discussion in professional military circles.
At issue is an article in the respected Small Wars Journal titled “Full Spectrum Operations in the Homeland: A ‘Vision’ of the Future.” It was written by retired Army Col. Kevin Benson of the Army’s University ofForeign Military and Cultural Studies at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., andJennifer Weber, a Civil War expert at the University of Kansas. It posits an “extremist militia motivated by the goals of the ‘tea party’ movement” seizing control of Darlington, S.C., in 2016, “occupying City Hall, disbanding the city council and placing the mayor under house arrest.” The rebels set up checkpoints on Interstate 95 and Interstate 20 looking for illegal aliens. It’s a cartoonish and needlessly provocative scenario.

And HERE is an editorial by Charlie Daniels, I have to say I agree with him on ALL the points!!!

This country IS on the brink of fracturing, and if we don’t do something, we’re going to be in serious trouble.  And the ads that are being run are just absolutely outrageous, especially the cancer ad (proven to be an out and out lie), and the ad in Florida against Allen West…

If I were king for a day, I’d cut off ALL outside money and PACs and make it so that they couldn’t buy ads; and give each party $50M for everything (ads, convention, the whole ball of wax).  When it’s gone, it’s gone… And I’d make the debates 3 hours one a month until the election. And I’d put a member of SCOTUS as the moderator…

  1. There’d be arguments about the SCOTUS moderator, Jim. Liberals would go nuts if Scalia or especially Thomas was chosen, as would conservatives if Ginsburg was chosen (if Ginsburg could even stay awake for it).

  2. You can say anything you’d like about the Tea Party. If you were to criticize the “great unwashed” of the OWS movement, you’d be slapped down like an unwanted stepchild.

  3. Sadly I agree. We’ve talked about “tipping points” in the past. However, I suspect the Tea Party would stand pat until the far left simply made their final power grab. If/when that happen, I suspect they will wish they had stockpiled a few rounds and taken a few weapons classes.

And this blatant class warfare that is going on – this will lead to shots fired as the “have nots” decide to simply take from the “havs”. I see that coming like a fully loaded freight train.

    Heavy sigh . . . . think I’ll head to the range . . . .

  4. Bob- Yeah, good point… sigh…

    LL- TRUE!!!

Ed- Oh damn, I hadn’t thought about that…

    Matt- Yeah… sigh

    eia- Concur!

  5. We are so on the brink and I keep wanting to believe the spirit of the American people will not allow it to became a socialist nightmare, but each day, I get less and less optimistic.

  6. Yeah, but “Seven Days In May” was about a crazy General attempting a coup against a sane President.
Here we’ve got a crazy “president”, and where are all the sane Generals??
And *IF* our troops were ordered in against a “threat” like the Tea Party, how many would follow their orders?
    10%?
    5%?
As much as I respect our Military, I’m not sure they’d “Do The Right Thing”, and disobey even a blatantly unconstitutional order.
You guys with current and recent military experience have a far better grasp on something like this than I do, so what do you think the military would do?

  7. I don’t recall Seven Days Burt Lancaster role as being crazy, but perhaps egotistical.
His complaint was that the president was a socialist.
The Kirk Douglas colonel was torn between personal loyalty to the general(and dislike of the dis-armament president) and adherence to civilian rule.

I think the current crop of generals is too political to do anything. Do you see them protesting sequestration?

  8. Agirl- Sadly, I have to agree.

drjim- THAT is the $64 question… sigh

Ed- “Legally” the military in uniform are prohibited from commenting/saying what they believe…

  9. If anything happened along those lines, I’d think it wouldn’t start with the “Tea Party.” WHICH “Tea Party” would do it? This sounds more like a Scare Tactic to bolster the current “Occupier” of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

Whom I could see trying some Crap if he LOST the Election. Trying to Declare the Results “Null and Void” and becoming “President-for-Life” is NOT something I’d rule out.

  10. When the government starts being more paranoid than the people… I am reading a new Kim Du Toit novel on my kindle, and data mining is interesting.

Too much computer power, then they think they can control you.. but they only find the tracks – not the place you are going.

May you live in interesting times.

I am for a one week campaign, and all candidates are in an direct competition – shooting, running, SAT and IQ test, DNA examine for past crimes, drug testing and no money from anywhere and no reporting on results until the last ballot is counted. NO PROJECTIONS!

  11. I’ve asked friends if they would cover this bet:
Before the election public building(s) burn.
No one will take the bet.

  12. Col. Hackworth’s Perfumed Princes.
My career, not Duty, Honor, Country.
As an aside, the author of Duty, Honor, Country didn’t hesitate to put the boots to Veterans. Orders are orders, ja?
