Less than impressed…

As a matter of fact, I’m pissed…

Screwed by the Crowne Plaza in Perth to the tune of A$105 a night on the reservations was NOT the way to start this day…

The manager basically said they ‘reserve the right’ to change the amount charged at any time!  Asshole!!!

And I’m now sitting at Sydney airport in a hotel thanks to Qantas note being able to actually MAKE a scheduled takeoff time (again)… I missed my connection to LAX, thank you very much…

And trying to change an international flight is TRULY a PITA!!!

Four flights on Qantas and only ONE was actually on time.

I don’t EVEN want to think of how @#%^ much those phone calls cost…

And people think travel is “so” exciting…

Grumble…

  1. Just dispute the charges to your credit card company. I have done this before. They remove the payment from the hotel immediately and then you start negotiating with the hotel. Trust me, when they don’t get paid they can start becoming very accommodating (pun intended). Also let them know that thousands who follow your blog, now know where not to stay in Perth. Follow up with a letter to corporate. They will kiss your ass the next time you walk thru their doors (that is, if you ever do so again). Great blog. Keep smiling, we will get rid of this ass hole in November.

  2. Punchline: “What, and give up Show Business?”

I hope it gets fixed for you. I like to say that it’s always a good flight when you’re going home, that that assumes that you’re actually on a flight and it’s actually going home …

  3. It’s all work. Sadly.

And even though you’re on an airplane to the US, just think that your luggage could be on its way to Botswana. (it could be worse)

  4. Alex/Rev- In progress!

    BP- Point… sigh…

LL- Yeah, been there, lost the luggage!!!

TBG- Thanks, and it DOES seem to be getting worse!!!

MSgt- Glad you got to meet him, and I’m truly sorry I wasn’t there.

  5. The good news is you didn’t have to think about what to write today (I know –“shaddup”–LOL).

Too many crazies out there right now. Watch your back, travel safe. 🙂

  6. Yeah, what Alex said. When you make a reservation, you agree to specific terms and that’s what you are authorizing them to charge. Just changing the amount mid-stream doesn’t work. They probably only do it because people let them get away with it. If you’re going to dispute, make sure and specify it isn’t fraud, but that the amount authorized was different than the amount billed.

  7. Qantas, worlds oldest continuously operated airline, and proudly continues their tradition of learning nothing but how to lose money and customers.

  8. Say WHAT!!!!!!!!!! I’m with the others and I would fight Crowne Plaza on that (and BTW I’ve made a note NEVER to recommend them to anyone!)

Glad you finally got out of the place but please don’t let these hassles stop you coming back again!

And when you do, plan to stay with us – I know we’re “out in the sticks” but fuel is cheaper than hotel rooms 🙂

  9. Yes, when talking to Larry, your name was brought up several times, and amazingly, there was no profanity involved. Just a sadness you couldn’t make the book signing. He’s a really cool dude. Lots of “squeeeee-ing” going on yesterday at Belvoir. Some nice high-heel shoes showed up as well…

  10. Sorry about the travel troubles. I hope to see you on the 22nd. And no, travel is not exciting. I got over that years ago.

  11. Dear Old NFO,

We appreciate that you took time in expressing your thoughts and experience regarding our hotel Crowne Plaza In Perth. I am so sorry to see you did not enjoy your overall experience at our hotel. We’d like to obtain some additional detail regarding your experience so we have sent you an email. We hope to have the honor of serving you again should your travels bring you back to Perth, Australia.

  12. Reminds me of the time I stayed a few days in Ottawa, CA a decade ago. As I was checking out, I noticed a surcharge on the bill…around 15% of the total. I was told it was due to a change in the currency exchange. When I got home, I discovered the change was in the US’s favor, not Canada’s. A month later, a Canadian friend explained the surcharge was the “American” tax that most hotels in Ottawa add to the bill.

  13. 45er- Still working on it.

    WSF- Yep…

    Julie- Thanks for the offer!

azm- I truly wanted to make that, however… sigh

    Andy- Concur!

    IHG- you have mail!

Crucis- Yep, saw that in Halifax once too! Challenged that one on the spot using a phone in the lobby… They were PISSED at me!!! 🙂
