Thoughts and Prayers needed…

Appears there was a major accident in Midland, TX an hour or so ago. Train hit a trailer carrying wounded vets, wifes/girlfriends.  4 dead, 17 injured, 10 critically…

Story HERE

A flatbed 18-wheeler truck was reportedly carrying 24 veterans and their families for the “Hunt for Heroes” parade in Midland when it was hit by a train.
“Show of Support” president and founder Terry Johnson tells the Midland Reporter-Telegram that a Union Pacific train slammed into a trailer that was on its way to the wounded veterans event about 5 p.m. Thursday.
He says there are “multiple, multiple” injuries and organizers still are trying to account for everyone.
Union Pacific spokesman Tom Lange says the eastbound train was sounding its horn before it hit the float Thursday as it approached a railroad crossing in Midland. He says the crossing gate and lights were working at the time.

Thoughts and Prayers needed… — 10 Comments

  1. I always ask, why…why does the Good Lord allow such awful things to happen to such good people…then again, who am I to question His will. Prayers sent. Bless them.

  2. If I may answer Stephen’s question: He allows it because of the choices we make. He’s a perfect gentleman, and will not override our free will. I’d be interested in hearing about that crossing, and whether the signals were working.

This just breaks my heart; prayers sent for the survivors & those who love them.

  3. Prayers sent winging their way from Lu and I.

You said it best. Just, damn.

  4. Maybe the Lord needed a few more brave souls on his side.
Praying for their families and loved ones, how hard this must be for them.

  5. Rev. Paul, there are conflicting accounts about the lights and signals being on or off. According to the regional edition of the Daily Fishwrap, there have been 10 accidents at that crossing since 1987.It’s been a while since I’ve been in that part of Midland, so I can’t add much more than that.

  6. Assuming that the signals were working, the big error with crossing tracks commonly is starting to go across the tracks without sufficient room on the other side to completely exit the danger zone.

A fast-moving train cannot stop on a dime, or even in a mile. It’ll probably go about two-tenths of a mile before all of the freight cars are braking.
