You know what is REALLY embarrassing…
It’s when you go to an instructor training class and your first string of fire is 6 inches left of the bull at FIFTY frikkin feet… sigh…
I can only wonder how hard my bag got thrown around to knock the sights that far off when the pistol was inside a hard case…
I had to re-shoot the string, and by aiming at the right side of the target I was actually able to get a suitable score!!!
I’ll be hiding in the corner if you need me… sigh…
I know the feeling. I just bought a hammerless .357 mag and went to shoot it. Had not fired a double-action in decades; no pattern at all!
BTW, I rode around in the backseat of E-1Bs back in the late 60s as an Enlisted Crewman operating an APS-82 radar. Changed career paths to intelligence as a First Class. Never did wind up in VP. Did time with VAW, VT, VF, abd VR. Did you ever see an E-1B? Ugly critters.
Maybe you need to go back to an old 1911 Govt? Those sights were very difficult to bang around. Of course the barrel bushing was usually loose enough that you wouldn’t get a perfect group…
It’s called sighting in.
What’s to be embarrassed about?
OH yeah, blame the equipment! LOL “.ACP+P” is now heading to the bunker to await the expected “return fire” shelling. We wouldn’t be your friends if we didn’t add to the abuse you are piling on your self. How you shoot at the begining of the day may be the equipment, how you shoot at the end of the day is you.
Darned sights! I have heard of this problem before. But I won’t name any names…
Where’s that old saying??? Oh, yeah, here it is: “Its the poor craftsman that blames the quality of his work on the tools.” I bet you were much better by the end of the day.
You were able to compensate, so no worries. That speaks to experience. 🙂
+1 Rev. Paul
Sounds like you need some coffee at starbuck’s …
Stu- Heard that… That whole 12 lb trigger pull “might” have had something to do with it… I saw a couple of those birds, but never flew in one!
LL- I can actually shoot those! 🙂 Qualified expert with 1911s that rattled like they were falling apart!
Ed- It wasn’t sighting in, it was for qualification!!! THAT was the problem! At least he was nice enough to let me re-shoot!
45ACP- LOL, no return fire needed… I ‘was’ able to compensate and at least get the qual. But it’s a lesson learned…
Opus- LOL
MikeyB- I’ll put it this way, it’s going to the gunsmith on Monday… sigh
Rev/WSF- Yeah, but I can’t compensate for the embarrassment… LOL
Brighid- I needed to pre-shoot to see if the damn pistol was actually on…LOL
Don’t let him fool you folks, once he know what the problem was he dropped them in just fine. His rear sight has been moved so much, you could see it from general observation at about 5ft away! It was a great deal fo fun to actually meet OldNFO face to face over the past 2 days . . . . more on that later this evening.
Bill
I’ll take you on my side any day NFO. We’ll be team Dangerous Old Guys.
Bill- Thanks… Sigh…
Six- Just make sure it has FIXED iron sights.. I’ll be good to go!
Hey look you got to shoot .. you got to shoot TWICE and you got a reasonable score .. sounds like a good day to me 🙂
Julie- It would have been fun except for the COLD… sigh 😀
