I’ve never been comfortable with “safety” catches on firearms. EVER. It’s the most unsafe component on every firearm. Glock handguns don’t have safeties and I love them for it. People presume that a firearm is safe because the lever has been pushed — or you need to take a shot and the safety is on.
I realize that my feelings aren’t widely shared — and I’m sure that the Thompson Center people are dealing with a manufacturing issue. However, I decided to vent briefly here on your blog about safeties.
I agree with you LL.
People depend too much on the “safe”. It’s human nature to dismiss the fact that something won’t work when it clearly says it will.
A wise man once told me that a gun’s safety was like any other mechanical device: useful, but prone to malfunction. We use them, but do not rely on them. “It’s on safe” is worse to me that “It’s unloaded” in the firearms excuse department.
