More and more holes in the dike…

A quick turn around the news today…

United Parcel Service Inc. plans to remove thousands of spouses from its medical plan because they are eligible for coverage elsewhere. The Atlanta-based logistics company points to the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, as a big reason for the decision, reports Kaiser Health News.

The decision comes as many analysts are downplaying the Affordable Care Act’s effect on companies such as UPS, noting that the move reflects a long-term trend of shrinking corporate medical benefits, Kaiser Health News reports. But UPS repeatedly cites Obamacare to explain the decision, adding fuel to the debate over whether it erodes traditional employer coverage, Kaiser says.

And UVA, which was a BIG supporter of Obummercare…  Well guess what???

Citing ObamaCare as a reason, the the University of Virginia has announced that spouses of University employees who have access to health insurance through their own jobs will no longer be eligible for health insurance coverage.

In its announcement, President Obama’s healthcare plan is specifically mentioned by UVa as a reason for the rising costs that forced the university to drop working spouses. ObamaCare is expected to add $7 million to the university’s health care costs.

And one more…

Mid- and large-sized companies overwhelmingly expect health-care costs to increase under Obamacare—and most are eyeing possible changes to their health insurance offerings because of a looming excise tax for pricier plans under the health-care reform law, a new survey of employers finds.

In fact, 40 percent of 420 companies surveyed by Towers Watson said they will be changing their insurance plans’ designs in 2014 in light of the coming excise tax as well as to control employee-related health costs.

And switching gears to yet another failure, remember the “Red Line” on Syrian use of chemical weapons that BO and the administration said was a HARD LINE NEVER TO BE CROSSED?

Yeah, that one…

According to THIS report, possibly up to 1300 dead… Video links in the article HERE, I’m not that cold hearted to put those up here.

And the administration response?  Other than crickets that is?  Well, Syria should be ‘investigated’…

  1. “Mid- and large-sized companies overwhelmingly expect health-care costs to increase under Obamacare”
And THAT is the ultimate goal….. Make the system crash under the weight of oppressive regulation and cost (while loudly proclaiming “it’s for the children”) then blame the eeeevil insurance companies and greeedy corporations. Then ride in and come to the rescue of the low-information voting “victims” with “one-payer” socialist healthcare to save the day……

  2. I agree with Craig, single payer was/is the goal of the left.

Additionally, I believe that the writers of Obamacare might have been trying to devalue marriage, in the same way that welfare benefits are increased for single mothers.

  3. Hmmmm…. I recall something about “let’s pass it to find out what’s in it…”
Well, We’re finding out what’s in it.

  4. Hey Old NFO;

I had posted on my blog last week…? all of my days run together, the affect that obummercare is having on my employer. I am surprised that they havn’t done the spousal drop, but I believe that it may happen next year as more and more companies do that. I believe that Craig is spot on that is the ultimate goal is gov’t payer. This is about control, not healthcare.

  5. We had to pass it in order to know what was in it….prophetic words. Nobody — and I don’t suspect that most of the Democrats — would have signed it if they really knew the impact on the American people. 20% of the US economy shifted from the public sector to USGOV. Obamacare is becoming a lot less popular every day as people are smacked with the reality of hope and change.

  6. I am happy that UPS did not shy away from the reason Why, like so many other companies do. Put the blame right where it is.

  7. I think most Congresscritters of BOTH parties knew exactly what was in the bill, and passed it knowingly & deliberately. There were widely disseminated videos in 2008, 2009, 2010 showing Progressives of all stripes proclaiming that single-payer was the goal.

Crashing the system is the centerpiece of the Cloward-Piven Strategy; always has been.

    • Only problem with that comment is that NO REPUBLICANS voted for passage of Obamacare; only Olympia Snowe (a full on leftist RINO) even voted the bill out of committee (and she did so stating this did not mean she woulad actually support the bill.)

The fact that it was being touted as merely a step on the road to single payer waws WHY the unified Republican opposition. The underhanded method in which it was “deemed passed” (even worse than the shenanigans the Dems pulled with the Hughes Amendment in 1986) with ONLY Democratic support makes it literally the most one-sided partisan bill in my memory.

  8. Heck, the rate increase is a suprise to absolutely no one . . . including the Big “O”. I believe it is simply one more tactic to push us to single payer – full government healthcare al-la the UK. It’s going to get worse . . .

As for Syria – there was never a “red line” . . . just words. I see France is saying military action is required . . . all for it – with French troops!

    Safe travels Jim

  9. And remember, a significant fraction of UPS are union workers. Which fraction of workers are losing spousal coverage?
And now DynCorp is striking here at NAS Patuxent River. Over what? Stalled union talks. What’s stalling the talks…. Three guesses, the first two are wrong. If you guessed Medical coverage, you’re a winner!
Sigh. And now BorePatch has such depressing thoughts about the future of freedom as it relates to the Internet, thanks to our Gubmint. Maybe Kerry’s comment about the Internet bringing less control has more behind it than we realize.

    • As of right now, it’s only lower level management, which is not union. As I told a UPS driver who was crowing about how they can’t touch his coverage, it’s only a matter of time.

  10. I got a notice that my former employer, who still provides my insurance, will be contacting me for an “information only” survey on my wife’s health insurance options. “Information only” but if I don’t answer, they’ll drop my health insurance.

I think all of the public sector unions that backed Obama are about to find out that they are no longer useful idiots, just idiots.
