Range Report…

Well, Keads and I snuck out and took a training course with Bill this weekend…

Money was turned into smoke, noise and knowledge and a fun time was had by all…

DSC00382“You VILL do as I say…”

Keads needs a haircut…

DSC00380And I did my normal screw up, dropped one round…

DSC0038710x double taps, and I did this not once but TWICE!!!

But I met the qual, so I guess I’ll take that and be happy. ย Bill did an excellent job of instructing, and there was a lot of back and forth between the four of us students. Well worth the $$, and the time!

And then Bill took us out for a ‘good’ dinner… First we went to Norway, and took a left, went to the middle of nowhere and took a right, and ended up in Amana. ย Yes ‘that’ Amana…

And that was WITH the shortcuts…

The Amana Colonies were founded 150 years ago, are a National Historic Landmark and are visited by people from all over the United States.

Originally, all land and buildings were owned by the community. Families were assigned living quarters, and each person over school age worked at assigned tasks in the kitchens, fields, factories or shops. In 1932, the people voted to end the communal way of life. Today, many of the businesses in the Amana Colonies are independently owned and operated.

We ate at the Ox Yoke Inn, a German restaurant and man, it was GOOD (scratch the damn diet again)!!!

I’ve got a couple of videos, but with the bandwidth at the hotel, I’ll wait till I get home to put them up…

Tomorrow it’s back to the grind…

For all y’all that didn’t grow up out where folks actually drive more than ten miles a day, it was about an hour there, and an hour back. ย So a ‘shortish’ drive to dinner… ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. If the target was a bad guy, he wouldn’t feel as though the “dropped round” in your pattern was a “miss”. Good shooting.

  2. Good shootin’ there, Tex. ๐Ÿ™‚

My wife & I ate in the Amana Colonies frequently while attending the U. of Iowa. Was about a 20 mile drive from Coralville, as I recall; it’s been awhile, though.

  3. Great to have you come again Jim! As for the “drive” to the Amana’s – next time we’ll do a “road trip” to a nice little micro-brewery I know – only about 90 min away! ๐Ÿ™‚

I completed my AAR this morning so for those interested, here’s the link:

And regardless of the self-depricating humor of both Jim and Kelly – they are indeed “shooters”!

    Safe travels Jim!

  4. LL- Thanks. But it still ticks me off

Rev- didn’t know that, interesting looking place, but didn’t really have time to look around.

PH- Yep, much nicer than last time!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  5. Sounds like you had the perfect day! Little shootin’ and then vittling down with some good German grub. Yeah, that sure beats going to Costco and the grocery store, which I did on Sunday. Don’t be to hard on yourself, all of your rounds were combat effective.

  6. Which Ox Yoke Inn? Found several. Willing to travel for good German meal.

  7. Amana Colonies? You surely got to Millstream and had one of the best stouts ever? I’m there once a year when I visit the son and grandkids in Iowa City. Nice knife shop there, too. I get one knife each trip.

  8. Jim- True!!! But I just don’t ‘like’ dropping one…

Stretch- The one in Amana, Iowa.

Bob- No and no… sigh… Missed BOTH of those. Maybe next trip!
